I have TCP/IP issues (unable to get online.) -system: w/WinXPsp2...downloaded winsockxpfix didn't help...still unable to connect (dial-up)

netdiag/test:winsock/v <232> [FATAL] Cannot find TCP/IP configuration from the registry.
Modem handshakes, says it is connected but then you hear it drop. It had error 720 ...now it's usually '50' with an occasional '6'. I have hooked another computer (this one) to the same modem, same settings etc... and have no problems or issues ...completed the "Modem Troubleshooter" through the "Help and Support", no luck. solutions, ideas?

Try using the Microsoft method of Winsock repair. The 2nd step requires the TCP/IP to be re-installed. Be sure to follow these steps EXACTLY and reboot when instructed to:
Don't overlook step 7... it's a bit hidden so be sure to reboot after installing the TCP/IP. When the PC is done booting into Windows, you should be able to connect and surf.... These instructions were taken from this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811259/en-us which has more info and some other methods to check/repair Winsock corruption, but the steps I listed here are the most complete as they include the re-installation of TCP/IP.
Good luck! I hope this helps!

quick question...will this require reloading my software?

:confused Reloading what software? If there was any software reloading to be done, I would have mentioned it earlier.... just follow the steps carefully and it should be OK. Only if you royally mess something up would you need to reload anything, and it would have to be a pretty freekin' royal mistake! ;) So don't worry... if you need more info about the steps I listed, there's a link in my post above to the Microsoft article that I got the information from. Check it out. ;)
