Cannot get properly connected to systems due to dns set-up, cannot get in to network card to change details

Within NIC properties, services & protocols (TCP/IP) are hidden, I cannot identify card, change or update drivers(system reboots). Also cannot install new pci network card.

    tried to configure dns manually

netsh int ip set dns "Local Area Connection" static <<***.***.***.***>> primary

error message unknown parameter, removed primary

Error message "cannot find specified file"

Compared with another pc of same ilk, DNS suffix search list should have connection specific entry

    Non-access to tcp/ip preventing change.

Also tried policy checks of c:\winnt\system32\secpol.msc
    local policies>user rights assignments

Regedit: Hkey_Current_User>software>policies>microsoft>windows>network connections, the keys to check for are not on this version of windows 2000

    Running GPedit.msc
User_configuration>administration templates>network>network connections, checked for prohibit access to Lan config - set blank (default)
checked for TCPIP advanced config - set blank (default)

Using full administrative rights on this PC, previously had sec pol from other IT support, but cannot find where else to look, please help I'm nearing the end of my tether

Knew it was a registry entry that would enable adapter DNS to change, here is what I found after some more soul searching...
Go to Regedit> For Adpater IP entry
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\{Adapter}\Parameters\Tcpip\IPAddress="*ip.add.res.s**"

    For subnet mask
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\{Adapter}\Parameters\Tcpip\SubnetMask="*su.bne.tma.sk*"

    For Default Gateway
    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\{Adapter}\Parameters\Tcpip\DefaultGateway="*gw.add.res.s**"

For DNS found registry entry HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NameServer="***.old.dns.***"
    changed to HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\NameServer="***.new.dns.***"

This thread can now be closed, thanks
