Is there a computer products SoftWare WAR going on out there in Internet land..? in which the big guns are doing all they can to disrupt the functionality of competitor's products..? in which the little guy is caught in the crossfire... and it's be only the little guy's machines take the brunt of the hits..?
Or is it just my overactive imagination..?

    Some examples maybe helpful?

or maybe your refering to the small faux pas that Microsoft did with a spyware definition update to the defunct MS Antispyware beta software which flagged Norton AV as spyware? this was cleared up pretty quickly with a newer update a day or so later, but the press hooked onto it and ran the story like a scolded cat!

Shh. That post didn't exist :p

Well, considering there are so many worms out there, and so many port scans happening constantly - you really have no idea what the hell is going on. If you tried to just tap a main Internet router you'd get a deluge of complete crap out of it. That's how companies make money out of Governments - they make very accurate and reliable searching applications so they can manage all this data.

I know that there are a bunch of governments who are putting serious funding into making searching algorithms to look for national security threats - or at least what they might think is a national security threat.

Personally I don't think it's the software you need to be worrying about...

    Ok...

...I entered a well known corporate software link, and suddenly my HD went hyperactive.. and ALL my controls totally inoperative... I had to pull the AC-plug from the tower...

I ran the AVS and Spybot.. The AVS barely functioned, then crashed the PC... and all the Spybot delete bad thing buttons, were all ghosted... I couldn't delete any bugs.. and a dozen Spybot popups remained indelable on the screen... 2/3rds of the OS was inoperative... I had to format...

The thing is that the site I entered is in serious competition with Spybot and SeaMonkey...

All that mess is the reality part of it...

I'm just puttin' one and one together... and am wondering what that super hack-slam was all about..?

It may be just my silly imagination that wonders if there's a war going on out there between software competors.. but we wouldn't know, would we..? We're just the little minows in a big shark infested ocean.. and prettymuch all of our super hightech computer security is handed down to us by the big guns...

I sure am Not going back there to get it!...

If you want to.. go into the Hotmail login page.. scroll down a bit, and click on that $3000 free money link.. and tell the guy that his project looks like a pyramid scam.. and just wait a minute or so...

I agree that what you got was way over the top, but why would anybody with any savvy click on a "$3000 free money" link anyway? It's an obvious scam, even if not a drive-by download scum site.

[edit] I don't use Hotmail, but went to their login page, and don't see ANY ads. Either you can access some other login site or you were likely infected already with something popping up ads on its own. [/edit]

    "Over the Top"... No kidding!..
    "Drive-by download scum site"... Yup!..
    Got me good... Yup!..
But what did it get the perp?.. a little rush?.. not even...
Maybe a little twinge in the bag..? Maybe..?
Maybe a momentary salty-taste in the mouth from the kill..? Maybe..?
Maybe just a little more bad Karma..? Probably...

That was a fresh ten-hour systems reload.. about twenty-minutes before I went into that site... and everything was working spiffy... Everything tested out A-1... This PC was as clean as a RollsRoyce's front window...

I had a Hotmail account, and a link to the hotmail login page in my bookmarks...
Maybe you need to already have an account to see the ad page..?
or maybe the big-stink I made about it resulted in it being removed, or moved..? don't know..? Just know it was mean and evil.. by someone without a clue about reality, nor any love of humanity.. probably someone whose brains are half-melted from sniffing too much premium quality pinlkish/white Brazilian powders... so it would seem that he really doesn't know what it is he is doing to others... Heck!.. He probably doesn't even know that there are others... I guess I just have to forgive him for being such an ape class subhuman...

No problem... I can take it.. My life has been full of that kind of thing, since I can remember... It's just that I hoped the wizards in this forum had a clue about it.. so I could work out a way to squash-it.. so it wouldn't happen to others...

I went to the Hotmail and new Windows Mail login pages and NO Adverts ( see screenshots below ) and yes I have both MSN and Hotmail accounts used on a daily basis for at least 6yrs+, their are adverts once you login and are at your inbox, but none of the type you are suggesting, I would imagine you got hit with other malware/spyware on your PC over one companies software product trying to disable another companies software.

    MSN Hotmail

    Windows Mail

Think your getting an answer of 3 with that, its not in the best interest of a large software company to knowingly surcumvent a customers security software and being that millions use Hotmail, this is the first I have heard for this and would be very suprised if the adverts that are at Microsoft Hotmail are linked to spam/spyware, if it was I would think it would be all over the news by now as in the small debarcle with the now retired MS Antispyware, flagging Norton AV as a danger ( wishfull thinking for some and brougth a smile to me ) but it didnt affect many before it was updated.

    Whats this Super Slam-Hack??

as for quashing it, well we have some great guides for.......

So.. How Do bad things get on the News..? I.E.: "Rhodney King"...

Something in this Culture's toilet is caught redhanded... Then once partially exposed, the "avalanche of thruth" takes over...
Just cuz you don't see something, doesn't mean it's not there... I.E.: the horrid violent abuses of bag-people in New York city's back alleys... and bullies in schools... and bullies on the Internet... and priests molesting kids was a secret till a few years ago... I was thus molested at three months old by a priest uncle who babysat me while my parents went christmass shopping.. I know first hand about that evil stuff... Maybe this is the first light of something big happening on the Internet... Maybe it will get on the News soon... Probably, given that the Media and a lot of Intel offices are watching my emails very closely... Heck!.. even the teevee cartoons are in step with my output... so is the cinema industry...

I wouldn't click on those two msn links if you paid me!...

    "Whats this Super Slam-Hack??"

    It's slang for "OUCH!"...

Thank you for those two Prime MajorGeeks links...
