Technology OUT of "Control"...

Currently I am battling on three "fronts" (three that I'll write about here, anyway) with this wonderful technology...

    1. "My" Mozilla/Firefox-Bookmarks are an absolute scattered mess. I am "guessing" this "may" be due to me having tried-out the Pale Moon AND Waterfox programs at different times (and for periods of time).

I would go back to Chrome in the quickest of BLINKS if I only felt I could "Trust" Google. Otherwise, Chrome is faster, and simpler, in my experience.

    2. "My" LastPass (Password Mgr) is quickly complicating my life (as opposed to what it "claims" it will do). Currently I am *not* getting the prompts I used to get when arriving at a page which seeks to register me with my email address and a password. Likewise, LP will prompt me on sites which I am already registered (and which is already configured in LP!?!) to "Save" the site. (*Note* ~ I had tried Roboform (A.I. Roboform) once before and it seemed (to me) to be very much similar to LP).

    3. "My" Task Scheduler.

In all these YEARS I have STILL not mastered this damned thing...in fact I have NEVER (to the best of my recollection) managed to get it to function even once!?! And THIS is really the crux of this post...isn't the technology supposed to SIMPLY things...make life a bit "better"??

"They" have called it "progress" for a couple decades now..but I am still far from convinced.

Maybe I'm just not cut-out to CONSTANTLY be fighting with this crap...

I've owned 13 computers so far. I have never used Task Scheduler. In fact, I make sure NOTHING is scheduled to be run. I want to control what my computer does and when.
Most programs have within them, all you need to know to schedule updates and/or scans.
My advice, don't sweat task scheduler. It isn't worth your time nor brain cells.

To clean up the browser mess, install RevoUninstaller and one at a time remove all the browsers. Reboot between the uninstalls.
Be sure you have downloaded what you want to install to your desktop before you uninstall all of them. If you can't find the browser you have downloaded, search for it (Void Tools, Search Everything) and move it to your desktop so it is handy for you when you are ready to install it.

    1) The Firefox Bookmarks 'mess' is nothing to do with Pale Moon as the profiles are completely different; Waterfox and all other (I think) Mozilla-based builds do share the Firefox profile.

    Me too - Never.

Basically, I agree with plodr and I turn Off all automatic updates except for anti-virus, malwarebytes,
    and Windows updates (notify only).

If you're interested in reading about it, I have this bookmarked.

There is one chore I've found Task Scheduler very helpful with and that is for automating backups. Mine runs a WinRAR profile twice a day and copies that to NAS once a day. It's too easy to ignore backups until disaster strikes.

I do not do backups because I store very little on the computer; it is archived elsewhere.
I do do complete images and those I prefer to do outside of windows so task scheduler would not help with those.
