Temp files

I use Ccleaner and Advanced System care to clean temporary files, but in Documents&Settings>local settings>Temp I see a large number of files which I assume are temporary but are not cleaned by these applications. Is there any general rule as to removing these files or does it depend on a file by file basis.

I'm a bit worried about using temporary file cleaners as very recently using TFC by Old Timer I totally screwed up my computer and when I tried to start it got the dreaded "NTDLR is Missing". So once bitten twice shy!

I have a desktop using Windows XP Home SP3

    Thanks

    Hello,
The files in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp can be deleted, no problem.

Files in C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files can also be deleted.

Thanks Tgell for your quick and helpful response. By the way, obviously my computer has been repaired since the "NTDLR is missing" episode, I included it in my post as a cautionary aside to anyone minded to use TFC by Old Timer; if you google temporary file cleaner that is the first programme that comes up and I would strongly urge extreme caution in using it. It may be that that is a perfectly good programme; I am just saying what happened to me and it cost me a lot of money to repair.

    Thanks again Tgell
