Well I have had a miserable day cleaning up an infection of Zlob from a laptop when I really should have been doing something else, but how much more miserable would it have been without this fantastic site. Simply following your superb detailed instructions has cleared it up for me.

I had one issue at the end of the procedure: IE7 "could not make an HTTP connection", but FTP was OK and the DNS settings were also OK. It turned out that IE7 had been set to use a proxy connection, and that one of the tools had removed the proxy details but left the "Connect via a proxy" option enabled. (Tools | Internet Options | Connections | LAN settings | Proxy server). I only mention this because I didn't find a similar problem on the web, so recording it here may help someone in future.
