I just thought I'd thank you guys for the hard work involved with the servers. About two nights ago I was downloading SpywareBlaster from the Texas mirror on my 56K modem, and somehow I was averaging about 8 - 9 KB/s and hit 15 - 20 KB/s several times. I never thought dialup could pull that off! :D :D

and hte best part is that if one of the servers is busy or has a low transfer rate, there are several others to choose from! thats what i love about the mg servers.

I love all these "thank you" and "you guys rock" threads. they're so inspiring. But i think they should all be moved and conjoined in one lump "butt kissing" forum, where grateful geeks coem to lick the boots of the all-geeky.

you could be PC and boring and call it the fan mail forum.

Dammit, thats what everone else does. :p

Oh yes, UK users will be happy to know I've been seeding my BT downloads, but due to a certain bug in mozilla I managed to get all my Downloads deleted. But 3DMark 05 is up and running, along with another couple as well :)

Well when someone does something for me I like to be polite and express my thanks to that person or persons for taking the time out of their day to help me with a problem that I may not have come across before or need more information on. I don't consider that butt kissing or licking boots. To take the time to appreciate a person's skill in something that they are better at than I am is called admiration.

I know I appreciate being told thank you when I have done something for someone.

Hey, that's probably the highest rate I'll ever see on my connection, I just thought I'd share. It surprised me in a good way, unlike most computer things. :)

    Yep, I do.

BitTorrent uses a system which is basically like a P2P network. But, what happens is one person downloads from the MG server, and they then act as a host for the file. Then people connect to a "tracker" file, which lists all the mirrors, and they can then download from all of the mirrors at the same time (i.e. the people who've downloaded the program).

Basically, the more people who download it, the faster it gets :D

Where can i get bit torrent? it sounds awesome. its like a faster way to get downloads because if a server is busy or if a server is down, u can download it from another place? sounds awesome! kind of like a giant ftp server or something.

Isn't that what the Hardware forum is for or perhaps it should go under Cooling along with all the discussions about fans. :D

I wish my friends dial-up connection went up to 20kbs. We were downloading some much needed Antivirus and Spyware programs for her computer (she really needed them) and the connection was only going at 3kbs. We waited for about an hour and a half to download two files from MG. lol I don't know how she lives with such a slow connection. I kept saying that I should have downloaded the files at my house (high speed connection) and then brought them over. lol Oh, well.

Also, is BT safe to use? Is it legal?
