Wow! I was able to clean up a pretty hosed PC using the instructions in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support" message in this forum. So THANKS for all the work that went into putting that together!

One thing that might be worth including is a note to scan the registry while logged in as each user who has an account on the PC. I went through the entire procedure as Administrator, only to find that when I thought I was done, there was still crud in HKEY_CURRENT_USER for each of the users on the machine. I used CounterSpy to clean that up, and once I had done that, the machine was squeaky clean.

Thanks again! This site has been a GREAT resource!

You're welcome. I'm happy to hear it help you.

We used to have a suggestion in there about cleaning each user account, but we removed it for a few reasons.
    1. people saw how much work it took on the first account and would not continue onto the other accounts anyway due to the time involved.
    2. you don't need to run some steps on the other accounts (like the online scanners)
    3. when people did clean each account they would wind up posting logs for each user account into the thread and that becomes too confusing to work on. We prefer to work one user account until clean, and then move on to other accounts.
Normally users will tell us they have other user accounts and that they are having problems with them. Our response is typically going to be, how many accounts and pick one and repeat all steps in the READ ME except the online scanners and attach new logs for the this next account.

Makes sense. I may have gotten lucky in that I only scanned the registry and running processes for each user, not the file system. If I felt I needed to scan the file system for each account, I would have used another favorite spyware cleaner: fdisk :)

    Thanks again.
