dont often take the time to say this, but the mods here are the most efficient, dedicated, bunch of people. i just "reported" a spam post, the first time i have ever done that and the spam was removed INSIDE TWO MINITES. thankyou all for keeping these forums, even the lounge, which is not the most integeral part of MG's, clear of rubbish, bad advise, and bad behaviour. mahalo.

and all I can say to you and all the others please use the Report a Post button, rather than post in a spam/inappropriate thread as it alerts us quicker than trawling through all the threads for new posts :)

Nahh I'm joking really, the mods do a great job on this forum. Keep up the good work guys ;)

If it isn't time consuming enough dealing with the spammers that try to use MG's resources for a free traffic ride, the rogue members that spawn a renegade site and steal the hard work done here, or some members with more user names than IQ points, lately the mods have had their work cut out for them policing some of the lousy advice being given in the tech forums. I don't envy them their work as volunteers; I don't have the patience.

Btw, AbbySue isn't a 'guy'; trust me on this ;)

LOL. Most of it is NOT super cool. It's a lot of work, for free, taking flak from posters that have had their fragile little egos stepped on, fretting over where to draw the line and what and how long to let something go on, checking their own motives to make sure they're not getting in the way of objective moderating, conferring with other mods/admins on some of the tough ones, all done with a level of maturity and patience that most folks don't have.

That's HERE, of course. Many sites don't meet those standards.

Heh, same with me really, would love to be a part of the team :D I think I'd be pretty good at it as I have a lot of spare time on my hands, but I guess thats up to you guys to decide ;)

Although I'm only a junior mod (I only mod one forum) - I've noticed that one of the great strengths in our mod team is the dynamic of the team and the rapport they have. I've not seen a single case of a mods actions being argued about by other mods. If there is even a slightest doubt in any action - it'll be discussed.

But, a lot of the time it's just preventing and removing spam. And it isn't all that fun. I'd say that the most enjoyable part of being at this forum is sharing knowlege and helping people - rather than dealing with spam and users who can't follow the rules. You don't have to be a mod to do that :)

One of the great things about this place that distinguishes itself from the countless other forums are the Mods.

Most forums are full of egotistical Mods who abuse their position, or think they are somehow superior because they have admin privileges.

Can I use that part I put in bold type to explain to other people what we do? (For clarity for some...I am not a mod here, but have been at another site for more than four years now.) Apparently, it's "fun" and "interesting" and "cool". In reality, it's a whole great big huge pile of work done for free in my precious little spare time. With the added bonus that the site where I work does not discourage controversial/political/religious topics in the general forum.

I've become a big fan of simply posting: "OK kids, play nice. Don't make me stop this car." It often works. :D

Can I paraphrase that? I love the kids part. No one likes to be called a kid.:) I forget how I found MG but was quite relieved when I did. I was a 'net n00b some four years ago and got lambasted time and again for simple questions so much so that I thought this was the norm.

I'm a senior mod now on a fairly large site which has the same ethos as MG and I enjoy what I do there. The other sites can have the idiots, we prefer quality members.

BTW, I always look at closed threads as you guys have some great zingers in there.:D

Yeah, there are some great mods here.
I quit the rogue tech posting as my answers were "way off base"
or not as clear and concise as they should've been. Thanks again.:)
