    What do I need to setup a wirelss network for 2xp machines? I was thinking and I dont know anything about networking so I dont really know but I think all I need is a wiresless router like a
    Code:
    Linksys WAP11 Wireless-B Network Access Point
    to connect the 2 over one connection and just follow the wizard in xp is that coorect? Also are there wireless routers that can act as a hardware firewall as well? I think this would be great to increase the protection over the 2 pc's which have significante setup differences.

    @cat5e - I have looked at
    Code:
    h**p://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=105
    and I want to use the third method which is as follows;

    Code:
    The Elegant Way: (Option-3)

    Get a Cable/DSL Router (like the SMC barricade). Install one NIC in each computer. The Cable modem is connected to the WAN input of the Router with Straight cable. The computers connect with Straight cables to the regular Router ports. Each computer is configured with TCP/IP Network protocol. You should have nice fast Network with DHCP server, and Hardware firewall.

    Here is an example courtesy of Russ: h**p://www.tacube.com/pages/samplenet.doc ***LINK IS DEAD***

    Cost about $$80-100 for a Router (Most of the products includes two cables) + $15 NIC.

    A big Plus: Most Routers has the capacity to clone your original network card ID, so the cable system does not experience any change.

    Pro: No need for any additional software. In 20 minutes, you will have Cable/DSL network running. Hardware firewall.
    The router has DHCP server inside that means automatic assignment of network components (no need to configure IP numbers).
    No trouble from Cable Service Provider.

    Cons: None really, unless you can not afford the increase in cost.

    My questions to U and the rest here:

    1. How can I be sure I dont already have a an NIC on each computer I believe I might but I could very well be wrong.

    2. I have Verizon DSL which uses a no cable but the phone line and a ethernet connection to my computer. So will this method still work?

    3. Where can I find the SMC Barricade for 60 to 90% discount as U say?Should I consider something else and or what SMC Barricade should I use out of the wireless ones or another brand?

    Answer 1. Look at the Device manager. If you have Network Card it will show there.

    Answer 2. It will work with DSL as well. The input to the Routers is Ehernet.

    Answer 3. The above was written two years ago. There is a lot of Cable/DSL Routers on the market. In the USA you can find one (any Brand) for $10-$30. Buy the cheapest ypu can find.

    ok I have been searching for (2) 803.11g PC adapters for the Linksys WAP11 Wireless-B Network Access Point which I plan to use as my router. My problem is I can t seem to find any 803.11g PC adapters when I search goolge I get this:

    Code:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=803.11g+PC+adapters&btnG=Google+Search
    Question :
    1. Do I need an 803.11g PC adapter for each computer which will be connecting wirelesslly to the Linksys?
    2. Will the Linksys WAP11 Wireless-B Network Access Point work with the 803.11g PC adapters? Cause, I was reading some where there of "g" being something like five times faster then 802.11b(which is all over- I also read there where many security issues with the 802.11b) not to mention the new standard is going to be "g" so should I get a different router? should the router and the adapters all be G?
