Things change quickly, so am trying to get opinions about the best paid app for general utilities including defrag, registry cleaners, performance optimizer, etc. ?? Any advice? I assume that Norton is still bloated like mad.

    Thanks in advance

I'm not a Norton user but AFAIK Norton doesn't cover any of the things you mention, but you will find loads of free apps that do by searching those terms in MG.

I agree with the earlier replies. Why $$$?

Great Freeware programs in just about every category and as good as, quite often better, than programs you have to pay for.

I have used may of the programs listed in the link above, and rarely had to pay for Shareware or commercially available programs.

I used to hate Norton. My isp changed from McAfee to Norton, so I went to MSE, and a host of free programs and do agree they can do the job.
However, because I get the Norto security Suite for free, I investigated and read how much improved Norton is in PC Mag and other reviews.
If you run the program and check your resources you will see it is quite light, unlike the old Symantec.
I admit I do not use the backup b/c I image and never allow the reg cleaner to run.
It updates definitions every four minutes, runs a quick scan often, but only when the machine is idle and runs a full scan weekly. You can check out your history for every thing the program has done quite easily.
My pc is not slowed down by it and the support has greatly improved; I have only had to use it once however. it comes with an uninstaller if you don't like it.
If I had to pay, I would really have to think hard about getting the Suite or a combo of free programs.
I let a week go by then used MalwareBytes Anti Malware(always get the spelling wrong with that one) and it could not find a trace of malware.
I think high level users can put free combinations together that may do a better job with possibly fewer down sides but for the average person, and even a pretty knowledgeable person I think this is a reliable, safe program you don't have to fuss with.
