Well I just beat the main quest took about 117 hours. All traveling through Horse and Foot. Too bad you can't become emperor.

Gonna finish up the side quests now I guess. It would have been better if they would allow you to take challenges from other NPC's for Grand Champion in Arena, instead of waiting a week for just monsters it's boring.

Other than that I though for the most part the game was sound man I love it, except for the every popular Windows Error's I get while playing

My understanding is that it's an open ended game like MorroWind.

That means there are plenty of side quests and caves to explore etc.

I'm still playing MorroWind, and have done for well over 400 hrs.

Guess that makes me a weirdo because I've completed the main quest?

I would have loved to come emporer and do like 10 quests to get everything back in order lol,but then yet again no games are perfect if its a good game you an expact a bad ending.

Don't know about Oblivion Rikky, but I had the same "problem" with MorroWind.

It did install and update though.

The patch installed with no problem here, although I still sparingly have a crash after trying to turn the game off...

But this is just beta patch, so I'm sure Bethesda will eventually address your problem...

Bethesda Softworks is happy to announce the release of our Beta Patch. Please understand that this is not the final version of the patch, this is a Beta Patch. If you are not experiencing any problems while running Oblivion, it is not recommended that you install this Beta Patch. If you do choose to install it, we strongly recommend you backup your save games and understand it may be necessary to re-install the game when the final patch is released. When installing the Beta Patch, please allow the installation to complete naturally. This installation may take up to twenty minutes in some cases.

Additionally, you may experience issues with this patch. Please report any issues you experience with this patch at www.elderscrolls.com/forums under Hardware and Software Issues -- specify you are running with the BETA patch. i've only played a little bit of this on the 360. I think its too much of an RPG for my good. I like the quick thrills of Geometry Wars.

Just got a my new comp, and have been playing around with it. So far it is loads of fun! I'm only about an hour in, but the first thing I did after leaving the sewer was to practice my archery by plugging a few passing deer for vension, and had a blast just doing that. :)

Having a few sporatic freezing issues, though. I still haven't gone through and checked to make sure all of the drivers have been installed, so not going to worry about it yet...

I'v been playing on it for around 10 hours now I havnt even done the first mission in the main quest and I'm having a blast,I never would have thought picking flowers and making potions would be so much fun LOL ,its the first game in a long time I think about new things I want to try when I'm not playing it,I'm looking to buy a house ATM plant my roots so I dont have to keep carrying around all this stuff:)

I'v got the sporadic freezing, not a crash just freezes for 5 secs then starts again,I'v also noticed that after playing the game for a while the video performance starts to slow down after a few hours, quiting and restarting the game sort of brings the FPS back to life  I think it may be a video texture problem but I'm not sure I'll have to look into it

cant recommend the game enough though wish I had a better system than my 6800gt and a643500 'OC to 2.6' and more than a gig of ram :)

I was very tempted to buy it, but I don't want to make the same mistake that I did with MorroWind.

This shows just how much profit they make if they can afford to sell it for so much less (they obviously aren't selling it at a loss).

I'll probably buy it soon, but if I waited another month, I guarantee you it would be less than $10.

$10 for the latest (and arguably one of the greatest) games that's just been released.

That's how it should always be, then nobody would bother downloading crappy ISO's or burning copies.

Ha Ha yeah right. Are you kidding me? less than $10? lol. thats crazy talk.

$10 Aus. = $7.6 USD. the game still runs $49 USD in stores. Sure you can get it a bit cheaper online but I doubt you will buy it brand new online for $10 or less anytime in the next 2 years.

  20. Insomniac

Ha Ha watch me. The most I've ever spent on a game was $29.95 (I think).

I saw Oblivion for the same amount (brand new retail box). Give it a couple of months, and it will be $9.95.

GamesWizards and Electronics Boutique have Far Cry, Doom 3 and Half Life 2 for $19.95, and they arern't 2 yrs old.

  21. lubetek

    lubetek Private First Class

$20 is not $10 or less than. You can pm me with your proof when you buy Oblivion brand new from a online store that sells it for $10 or less than. I welcome the news.

Far Cry released 3/23/2004 (over 2 years ago)
HL2 released 11/16/2004 (will be 2 years in 6 months)
DOOM3 released 8/4/2004 (will be two years in a little more than 2 months)

Local stores do not sell these games that cheap. even online stores sell them for more than $19.99 BUT i figure there are some stores like "play.com" that offer great deals on these games. All i was commenting on is your comment that if you waited another month, you guarantee us it would be less than $10. Thats one month from now. Happy hunting.

P.S. when you do find this deal one month from now let me know so I can buy a bunch of copies and sell thm for a profit. lol

    Read my posts again.

I never said it was $10 now, I said it was $29.95, and that it will drop to $10 soon.

You don't live in my area, so how would you know what stores sell them for?

As far as PM'img you with the proof, you can't be serious?

I have nothing to prove to you or anyone, and this isn't a contest.

And I couldn't care less if you don't believe there are games in stores for $9.95, I've been buying them for that for years.

But you living in the States would know more than me.........

Don't let this happen to you! Inside an Oblivion Gate, during a routine battle involving an enemy Xivilai and his spawn , I spawned a Dremora Markynaz. My poor Dremora got crushed so I spawned another and joined the melee as his sidekick. We won, but before I could move on, my Dremora buddy whacked me on the back of the head with his two handed Daedric claymore and knocked me to the ground. My skinny mage butt was already injured, so as the scene changed from 1st person to 3rd person view with me falling slow-mo to the ground, my pal hit me again. I was murdered by my own Dremora! I laughed for a long long time. Apparently, these conjured beings have no tolerance for accidental buddy slashing. I'll be more careful in the future. :)

lol thats my philosophy too. since buying the PSP and finding out that PSP games in the UK go for the same retail price as PC games, i decided there and then that ill never again buy a game from a retail shop. instead ill wait a few months and then turn to ebay to grab the game i want for a decent price....

......or i will *cough*find other ways of getting it*cough ;)

As for the price, $29.95 on Amazon two weeks ago was the deal I got on Oblivion:) . But I've never heard of too many games costing over 59.99( I refuse to play consoles any more)...besides Gamestop and EB or your local Wally World always have sales on games. I bought FEAR months ago for $29.95US then the price skyrocketed back to $49.99 for several months and just now dropped to 29.99 again.

Seems like new game prices are like the cost of oil( or petro to you Insom:) ) they raise and fall constantly.

    But 89.99 for a game:rolleyes:

I never said that you said that. I said you said this:
Maybe you should re-read your own post.

I never stated what stores in Australia sell games for. If I'm not mistaken we were discussing prices ONLINE. Local stores usually always charge more for games and fail to lower the price quickly. Online stores usually sell for cheaper and sometimes much cheaper. I never denied that. I only stated that you would not find this game 1 month from now for $10 or less online.

who said it was? I only asked you to pm me with the proof. I mean you are so sure this game will be $9.95 in one month (though in your earlier post you changed it to 2 months lol) so I figure if you can get such a great deal then maybe you should share the wealth. I would love nothing more than to buy Oblivion for $9.95 so I can turn around and sell it for $25.

When did I ever post that there are no such thing as games for $9.95?? The only game we are talking about is OBLIVION. I see games for less than $9 all the time. Old games. un-wanted games, etc. Will Oblivion ever make it to $9.95? Sure someday it would. I have no doubt in my mind that all games eventually make it to the bargain bin in time. Let me clear something up for you because it seems you are going off our argument and branching into other areas. My entire original post was in response to your claim that OBLIVION (I'm not refering to any other games here) will be selling for $9.95 in one more month if you waited to buy. You guaranteed it. How can you make that statement and then not want to show proof? Anyway I'm just being realistic here while you are living in some other reality.

I never claimed that I'm smarter than you, though from reading your posts I'm starting to think I must be.

So the game is $29.95 online. Thats cool and I never denied that anyone couldn't find it cheaper. Again I only stated that the game would not be $9.95 ONE MONTH from now.

Now I'm done with this thread. I can only take so much stupidity in one day. You filled my quota.:p

Say what you must but I won't be replying again. In fact I won't even bother returning to this thread.;)

Which outlet was that I was in EB Games today and still $80, I don't think you'll ever see it much cheaper than that.

It was Games Wizards at WestFields Hurstville.

Don't know if it was an in store promotion (there is an EB Games on the top floor, so they both try to outdo each other).

If you can't get there, tell EB Games you saw it for sale at $29.95 as they promise to match prices (don't know about Brisbane though).

If you want one, I can buy it for you and send it over if you want to pay for postage as well.

  32. Insomniac

Insomniac Billy Ray Cyrus #1 Fan

And just to add and answer your other comment, you will see it cheaper than that, it's just a matter of time.

All games eventually become $9.95 or $19.95 specials (usually within a matter of months).......(which is why I NEVER buy a game that's just been released, regardless of how appealing it is).

  33. Bold Eagle

I would say Sydney would have a lot fiercer market competition (3 mill pop compared to 1.2mill) than Brisbane as the only games I see in that price range are generally 2-3 years old or absolute rubbish, think I'll be waiting a while. FEAR was still for $80 the other day couldn't believe it been on the shelves for > 8 months now, as an example, and we have only just had a second Game Shop become estab within the local Westfeild recently, hopefully competition will pick up a bit.

My first foray into Oblivion, was kick-ass warrior style. I chose an Imperial - heavy armour dude with a big sword. Every encounter was a battle, where I'd end up becoming heavily wounded, but my shield and sword would eventually win the day. The second time through, however, is completely different. As a Breton Mage, I'm simply too small and weak to engage Rambo-style. Lord knows I've occasionally tried. Yet this mage is still very effective at taking down the baddies or simply walking past them, invisibly. You see, a Breton mage has lot's of majicka and easily attains those big important spells, like conjure Dremora or a 50 point Lightning blast. Although, I'm now wearing the light armour provided by the Dark Brotherhood, it barely gets a scratch, thanks to my Dremora buddy. As a warrior, I'd kill everthing in sight, then pick up the loot. As a mage, it's just as rewarding to slip past a roomfull of orcs, steal the treasure, and slip right out again without killing a thing. Occasionally, I have to let my Dremora out of his box, just because it's fun to watch the show.:)

  38. Rikky

I went for a balance with the dark elf, weapons, magic and bow,bit crappy with the heavier stuff like longswords but I aint lost a battle yet,he has heal minor wounds spell as long as I keep out of the line of attack and let my magika replenish I can keep healing forever which makes it a little easy IMO,I'm only at level 5 though and half way through the theives guild quests so it should start getting tricky soon I hope

I'm tryna find a good way to make some Big cash 'NO tips please:) ' some of the higher weapons and spells in the stores are mouth watering,I used look at the cars in a local car dealership as something to work towards now I'm thinking about weapons and spells in oblivion

    I think I'v got a problem  :)

  39. prometheos

    prometheos Staff Sergeant

    Hi Rikky,
Don't worry too much about having enough cash to buy fancy gear. Besides the fact that you'll find increasingly better gear on your enemies as your character's level increases, it seems to be better to sink your cash into training. The skills that are hardest to increase are the ones that have the highest ratings already. Those are the ones for which I like to purchase the training. Lower rated skills will "train-up" pretty quickly. To be sure, to get more cash for your items, requires good old fashioned "haggling". You get the most favourable results when 1) they like you and 2) your mercantile skill is higher than their's. Since your dark elf probably has a few magic skills, you could use a "charm spell" on the vendor before engaging in a trade. Then if you decide to click on the personality button and "tell a joke" , you might get the vendor to like you at the 100% level. Then when you try haggling you'll be able to work out the best price that you could possibly get at your current mercantile skill level. In the early game, if it has a cash value, and I can carry it, I will pick it up and sell it. That includes cloth and goblets and plates and books. It's only a couple of gold coins but it adds up. Once you join the Mages Guild and the Fighter's Guild, you can strip the guild halls bare, in every town in Cyrodiil. It's the safest way to gain coin in the early game when your character traits don't add up to much. Can you say "Wood Elf - Thief". I'll be trying that one next :)

  40. lubetek

    lubetek Private First Class

want to make some quick cash? join the Mages guild and once you are a member go to all the towns, enter the guild and then take all the items you can find that don't have a red hand when hovering over. You will find that nearly everything will have a normal hand icon meaning you can take it and its not considered stealing. Now go and sell everything. you can easily rack up A LOT of cash quickly this way. I think I made around 8k doing this.

  41. *WavyGravy*

Or you could join the Theives guild and pull a crime spree throughout all the cities. I love robbing the Arcane University and the Imperial City Jeweler. Or you could just enchant weapons and then sell them.

The second time through was played "in depth", although I freely admit it was a little bit boring by the midpoint. I went everywhere, did everything - although, somehow I missed one or two quests. I verified this fact by opening the Oblivion.esm file with the available TES:Oblivion Construction Kit editor. The ability to "edit" is a very nice addition to any game. I love what the modding community has done with this game, in such a very short time since it's public release. I was particularly impressed by a mod done by the now famous "Oscuro". It's aptly named "Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul" or OOO for short. I'll tell you why. I'm on my third run-through - I built a new character and ran the OOO mod. Holy blazes. Can you see my character run away like a little girl? Oh yeah, baby!. Until your character's got some meat on his bones, you can't just walk into a cave or ruin or old fort and last more than a couple of sword chops. The game is outrageous good fun now. Now, character develeopment, really does matter. With the OOO mod installed, there will be no more skimpy unprepared characters saving Cyrodiil from Oblivion. You've got to be packing some serious heat. Our fellow MajorGeek, jedandjess, would probably appreciate this mod more than most. He'd been reading on several of the Oblivion Forums that Oblivion was a bit of a let-down for many of the MorrowWind fans. Well brother/sister jedandjess, this mod's for you. This third time through is far from boring. Every step of the way, now needs careful planning. I don't have the cash flow, like I'm used to, because the average, easy to dispatch bandits, don't carry expensive gear anymore. There's no point saving those meagre gold coins for posterity - spend them on training. At about level 5 you're fit enough to enter your first cave. Just be prepared to run like hell. And if you've neglected to add top-ups to your "speed" attribute then expect to be run down by several Amazon Man-Hunters who'll persue you out of the cave, and kill you on the road. If you try to hide behind the skirt of a Legion Patrol, they'll smack him into the ground and then they'll get you. I was forced to steal his horse to get away alive. I'm now Level 9, and I went down that horrible stretch of road and discovered, 2 dead horses, 3 dead Legionaires and 2 dead Amazons. I'm staying out of caves for now, 'cause I'm a mage and I fight like a girl. But one day, when I'm big and strong like Arnold, I'll meet those Amazons once more. Thankyou Oscuro, this is one helluva mod you've created, my man - great work!
You can get your copy of OOO here.
