The Lounge. Never fealt more uncomfortable in my life!

Been reading over a recent thread where several members poked fun at threads about dying dogs and the such.

I started a thread when my dog passed away a couple months ago and was greeted by many sympathetic members.

Now I see a thread where many seem to be poking fun at threads about other's misfortune and it is really unsettling.

I thought that the purpose of the lounge was to discuss Non computer related topics.

To me, a lounge is a place where you are supposed to feel comfortable, but I feel like I just got a group slap in the face.

I read that thread last evening and decided to sleep on it before responding to it, but the morning only brings more disappointment.

Not really too sure what else to say at this point, so I guess I'm out for now.

Hi

Please dont feel that way, none of this is aimed at you personally, just been a spate of threads on medical issues that really need to in honesty be talked over with a specialist doctor/GP etc over coming to a forum of uneducated medics (yes there are actually a few MDs and Specalists here) but forum medics are not the real place to gain support for your ills, your story is a bit more different than the ones I highlight.

These threads did seems to go off on tangents and have caused that thread you mention to be posted.

That is disturbing and let me review it and remove any posts in which I deem not in the spirit of the forum, do PM me the thread link (PM only please the link), although I think I know the one you mean,

Forums are like natural things they are like a marrage in a way, sometimes going smoothly and sometimes a bump in the road comes along, this is the 1st one of this year and hopefully we will have it repaired soon, however like all things a new bump in the road will come along in the future and hopefully we will be better placed to deal with it swiftly.

We are and have been trying to reign back the moderation levels and with discussion n admin circle with the rest of the team we will have new mechanisims to deal with issues swifter in the future

Hey please do not let this upset you too much and please PM me if you have issues with any of this and I will do my best to deal with them

An important difference between your very legitimate thread about losing your dog (something a lot of us have been through and can sympathize with), and the threads we've seen where people as for medical advice, is that your could not have gotten anyone in legal trouble, nor risked your health.

I think, if I understand MA and the mods right, that it becomes an issue when someone comes here asking for advice with issues that really require professional assistance, especially psychological problems and other medical situations.

If you've been around for a while, and if you stick around for a while, you'll notice that threads from a member who has just been through a family tragedy and needs to just vent and get some reassurance that they're not alone, are not uncommon in the Lounge. This is a community, we're here for each other.

It's just that we don't want those kinds of threads to become the norm and take over the discussions entirely. Makes sense?

Thank you all who responded. This was not intended to be another "woah is me" post, as they are so affectionately referred to.

I had an issue (dog passed away), came to these boards and was met by some wonderful people who could relate to my situation and helped me cope with it.

Reading the comments on the thread that I'm referring to, struck a nerve.

This thread is not about trying to cry in anybody's beer, just venting about something that rubbed me the wrong way.

I sincerely apologize to all if I took their comments out of context, as I do realize that they were not directed at me.

I'm just looking to let this drop, so that we can move on to hopefully happier topics.

In response to bigfurrykid and anyone who was offended by my comments in this THREAD:

My intent was not to offend anyone. I have had many of my beloved pets pass on and know it can be a painful experience. Having others express sympathy is a good thing. However, in lieu of the way that the lounge has been going lately, I was being a tad sarcastic about many of the "personal" type threads. Teenage angst, debates about medical procedures, things that need to be discussed in a totally different venue.

I apologize if my lumping a number of issues together was taken in the wrong way. We really, if you read MA's posts, are wanting the lounge to be a light and happy place. That is not to say that there are times when it is there for some to find solace in times of trouble.

To quote MA:
This depressing "woah is me shit" makes me want to kill myself (Now I'M doing it). Take your personal, deep, twisted problems to a counseler or a forum where people can relate. That's all.

I hope you can now see that my post was facetious and was not intended to offend anyone in particular. I understand that not everyone understands or gets my sense of humor or sarcasm.
