What's up with the NHL, looks like I'm not going to get to watch any professional hockey games this year?

Yeah, like any business the owners can't keep bleeding or they will bankrupt. Plain and simple. I'll watch the Juniors for my fix. May even be more fun.

not greed, business. The owners say they'll take less of a loss by not having a season compared to what they would lose if they paid the players.

I'll be going to Wolves games here in Chicago. They're better than the Blackhawks anyway :( I'll be missing my Flyers though. *sigh* Guess I'll just have to get my hockey fix by playing again. Time to get back in shape. :)

What is it that stops the players agreeing to a cap?

Not that I'm picking sides or anything...

At my house lot's of hockey fans.

Seems like the NHL just dont exsist, I havent heard anything or seen any headlines, Poo!

I have a son who plays Highschool hockey hes on the Varsity team, atleast we got that, they will play around 45 to 50 games between now and march.

If anyone else loves hockey Like my family, go see a highschool game Lot's of action, they get pretty rough too!
I'll probably go to a few chicago wolves games inbetween the kids games.

I guess all the older 5-9 million dollar players that are 34 or 35 will be retired by the time they settle. Guess greed was there last payday.

makes me feel bad for player like steve yzerman who is completely dedicated to the game and not the pay. He is getting close to his end years and missing out, he has played on the same exact team for 20 years, won a couple cups is the team captain and is payed less than most of the player on the team.

People like federov piss me off, everyone in hockey town hates federov now.

Well, i'm not a big fan of organized sports unless they promote getting kids out of the house, but I like hockey. Are they playing atall this season, or are we just gonna have to tape Cindy blackening eyes to get our fix? I could live with that... :p

It's not a strike, it's a lockout. The owners ended the season before it began because if the players play then nothing can be resolved. I agree with salary caps, because it would make the teams more even. No team could "buy" a championship like the Yankees and Braves try to do in baseball every year. To put the money thing in perspective though, compare an athlete's salary to a big movie or TV star's. Millions per movie or episode, And we buy into it by watching. At least hockey players do their own stunts!

So the owners ended the season before it even started in hopes that the players would be willing to play for less money?

I don't think it means less money for playing now but future years. It involves the team salary cap at x dollars, so if your team is paying out more than this amount it would have to dump some expensive guys therefore devaluing them.
