"The page cannot be displayed" problem

My IE 6 will not allow me to access some sites, though my internet connection is working fine. I had been visiting these sites just before IE crashed (the computer as a whole did not crash). When I restarted IE, the problem appeared; I got the page saying "The page cannot be displayed". I tried resetting my modem, and rebooting, but these did not fix the problem. How do I make IE regain access to these sites?

Welcome to Major Geeks. What operating system and current updates are on your computer?

Also, are these secure sites your having problems with, and did this seem to happen after removing some spyware?

Steve, I'm having the same problem. I have IE6, Windows ME and I run my spyware programs daily. It's not on any one specific site that I will get this error message page. I could be on the same website for the last hour and all of a sudden the error page will pop up. I usually just either refresh my screen or back up a screen and try again and that usually works. Sometimes I have to just give up on that site and go back to it later. It's even happened on Yahoo when I'm trying to go through my emails. It seems to be happening a lot more frequently but I can't think of any major changes that has happened with my PC to warrant this error happening so often.
