WTF maties... I get this when I try to download or uninstall some programs.

I have gone thru the Malware Removal section, except for submitting logs as nothing was found.

Is there a particular 'bug' I should be looking for, a particular problem, or in a particular area?

I would do a clean install, but all of the cds are in storage with the rest of our life, and of course completely in the back of the storage unit.

HP Pavilion dv8000... can I do an F10 and restore the unit to its original configuration?

FYI... whilst cleaning the unit for bugs I turned off "system restore" so I have nothing but current restore points..

If you have more than one user account on the PC, be sure you're signed into one that is "Administrator" level with full privileges.

To check this, go to CONTROL PANEL > USER ACCOUNTS (unless the PC was set up by an IT department with specific lockdown policies, at least one user account will be an administrator-level account). If you want to upgrade other user accounts to admin. level, you can do this in the user accounts section.

If that doesn't work and you are running Vista or 7, click the Windows start icon (bottom left) and type in "UAC". This accesses the User Account Control. Try dropping the protection level temporarily; it may solve the issue.

    Hope this helps. :)

Then are you able to interpret the logs from Rootrepeal, Combofix, MGTools and perhaps TDSSKiller? If not I would attach the logs as anything else that you try to do could be a waste of time if malware remains in place.

FYI... I am performing the Malware section again as the last logs were somewhat dated. Should be done today and I will attach for your review.
Also, I have attached a prompt which pops up each time the puter is hard booted or just restarted, in safe mode or regular administrator, or any user account.
I'm not sure what it is, but no malware or virus software finds it.
BTW.. It is the first screen to open after the boot screen.

OK, but you must be sure to create a new thread in malware removal when you have the logs ready to attach, and also direct any questions you may have in that thread and not here. :)

Have you attempted to load the software in Safe Mode? It doesn't always work; however it may work since most malware won't load or run at startup in Safe Mode.

Just a few quick tips to try if trying to install or run malware removal software such as Malware Bytes:

    • Download it in Safe Mode with Networking.
    • Once extracted, rename the file before running/installing it. Some malware looks for program .exe files based on their name and attempts to block them.
    • Clear all history from your browsers (IE8, Mozilla, etc.) and disable any toolbars.
    • Attempt to install and run it while in Safe Mode.

My experience is about 50/50 on this - if it works it may save you time.
