Themexp Viruses

I downloaded a couple themes from there and went to install one, but it wanted me to install other software to do it so I decided not to. Somehow, in the process I installed something and ended up with a virus and I just found another one a while ago.

Has anyone dowloaded from this site and had similar problems?

Anyone know a place where you can get themes without having to install
sponsors' programs?

 

If a theme come from somewhere other than Microsoft...then it will require a third party software to handle it. Unfortunately, you have to pay for themes from microsoft. Or atleast that I've seen myself.

Some of the "reputable" (?) Theme sites offer either adware sponsered "free" versions, or paid versions that are ad-free. It was likely adware you got, not an actual virus. Although the non-reputable will package true nasty stuff with something enticing, and you could get anything from those. Always be cautions who you download from, and read the fine print even on the reputable stuff.

I'm ever more amazed at how many traditional reputable things these days want to install Yahoo Toobars etc. along with their stuff. Always check your install options carefully so you say NO where appropriate.

 

They wouldn't let me install the theme without installing whatever they
were pushing.

It probably was just adware since it didn't do any damage.

Oh well, not really worth the trouble to go through that just for a new theme.
Guess I'll just keep the old one.

Yeh it seems included with everything and ticked by default, if your not on the ball it can easily be missed especially when your not expecting it,my last encounter was only few days ago but the name of the program slips my mind,really wasnt expecting it
