I placed the thermal sensor for my CPU on the back side of the motherboard directly behind the processor..is that the best spot? i also did the same to my 6600GT...any tips on how to place them? or where u got better results, anyone?

The best place is right under the CPU its self... or at the base of the cooler.....closer to the die the better... putting th sensor on the other side of the mobo from the CPU will give you cooler (fulse) readings..........

How exactly am i supose to get in under the processor? I see no logical way of gettining it under there w/o moding the white/yellow part the CPU goes into,i have a 478 PIN cpu,HELP PLEASE id like to get in in there, and when i do get it in there where do i stick the sensor?to the mobo underneath the cpu? or to the bottom of the CPU?

Well if you are adventurous you can cut out a small notch in the socket itself with a Dremel tool. I done this on an old Socket A ( 462 ). Once you get the notch cut you can weave the lead threw & not attach it to anything. Like I said I done this with an old Gigabyte board & it worked perfectly. The temps I was getting with the Digital Doc were within just a few degrees from what both the BIOS & Everest were reporting.

Now with all that said......I am in no way suggesting that you attempt this & I take no responsability if you do. I am only letting you know that it can be done. I am sure if you looked around on some modding sites you could very well find a tutorial outlining the steps to achieve this.

    Best of luck.

Or..... You could download MBM 5, find your motherboard during the configuration wizard, and it will display realtime temps in your taskbar, well the area that shows the time.... It displays CPU Socket temp, CPU Diode temps, and Case/Ambient temps. You can also get it to pick up your video card temps as well, if the HSF wire has 3 wires (not just 2) on your vid card you can figure out which sensor and stuff this is in the MBM 5 window.

thanks,i found a tutorial on cutting a notch out of the socket,i will attempt this on a few dead boards i have laying around till i get it just right..Heres the kicker,i took the main board out yesterday b4 i heard about cutting a notch out,and i just had a blank stare looking at the socket with the CPU removed saying over and over again ''how the hell do i get the sensor under there''. Will practice on some dead boards and i will take PICS of the modding so we cna post it here on MG if possible.....thanks,i'll keep u updated.

I stuck my sensor right at the base of the heatsink Mine came with an adhesive strip. Check the thermal read on the utilities and the external is always 10C cooler under any load, so just use that factor when reading the thermal gauge. Did the same on the GPU which reads 15C cooler on all loads. That is close enough and gives you the relative changes. Just a thought vs cutting anything.

    "Fresh build 3DMark05 12,946 @(2.8Ghz) "

You sure you didn't run 3DMark03 to get that score?

    3DMark 03 I get 12758
    3DMark 05 I get 5500

Its the vid cards that pump up the 05 score. Both of these 7800 GTX's are OC'd to 490hz and the ram is OC'd to 1300. Get in 32k's in 03 benches. When I pump up the CPU, it only slightly increases the 05 scores relative to the vid cards. That new 512 GTX gets in the 11K's in 05 with one card at 550hz.
