    Hi All,

I have been told by a technician that I need at least a TB of hard disk space to run some 3-D imaging program. I do not believe I have space to add an additional drive onto my Dell (small) desktop. I plan to do the following and need your input.

    1. USB connection to Thermaltake Dual Blacx dual hard drive docking station
    2. Buy two 1TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000C, 7200 RPM, SATA, 3.0Gb/s, 3.5" drives

I shall be loading the data into one of the drives and will be backing it up on the other drive with Acronis Backup software. I do not know how to do mirroring if that is what is recommended. The data is vital and I need to create backups for it daily. What do you think? Also, I do not know how difficult it is to do an eSATA connection to my computer.

All comments and help are most appreciated.

Well, your plan is sound. The one thing I'd change is to use Seagate ES drives because they are more rugged and less prone to failure. There is no need to do mirroring unless you need to always have an instantaneous backup.

    Hi Abekl,

Thanks but the Seagate drives seem rather expensive. They are about 2-3x more. Am I looking at the wrong places e.g. newe**.com. Do you know much about the eSATA connections?

O.K. Just remember, you get what you pay for. As far as the eSATA interface goes, it is much faster than USB. If you have the option of using it instead of USB, by all means use eSATA.

    Hi Abekl,

Point taken regarding the Seagate issue.

How do you install the eSATA connection? I have these computers for about 3 years and running on XP. Is it true that all you have to do is to get a card? Any recommendations?
