Figured this warranted a new thread. :-D

The call came yesterday while I was at my niece's house. The kids' biological father lost his final appeal (unless he has the money to take it to the state supreme court, which I'm thinking not ;)). Should find out tomorrow or maybe the next day when the court date is for the official adoption. :-D Right now they're thinking either the 24th or the 31st, but it depends on how long it takes paperwork to process through to the clerk.

    I cannot stop grinning. :-D :-D

    Congratulations.
Glad to hear there's a bit of common sense left in the world at last. It would have been the height of injustice had your niece lost to this bag of sh*t. Perhaps that's a bit unfair.....to bags of sh*t.
Why would he even consider contesting this decision? Surely he now realises that the world sees him for what he is. Perhaps he's fought it this far just out of sheer spite. What an ar$ehole
How is your niece bearing up? Hoping she is well after all she's gone through.
I'm happy for her and all around her who helped and supported her through this.

I don't know the background of this, but sounds like what I'm going through right now with my wife's cousin.

Husband abused wife and kids both physically and mentally for 10 years.
Husband was a career criminal and drug addict, and still is.
Left wife and kids behind when she finally took a stand against his crap two years ago.
Files for divorce and total custody with ZERO visitation rights for the rest of his life.
Now wants to contest things just to be Captain Anus.

There's another thread within the first couple pages of this forum titled "Why do people have to suck so much". I almost added this to it, but now we're in the GOOD part. :-D I wish your family the best, and hope you have as fabulous an outcome as mine.

Thank you SO MUCH, everyone! Both my niece and nephew are so delirously happy they can't stand it (even while yelling at the kids for misbehaving and putting them in time out LOL), and most of the family is walking on air. When she got off the phone with the case worker all three of us grabbed a kid and hugged, and all three of us at the same time got variations of "stop squeezing me so tight, it hurts!" roflmao

The plan now is for them to seriously start looking at houses to buy closer to us and move almost immediately. Until then, heightened vigilance at their place with increased drive-bys by the police, and a few more security measures when they go to bed.

Good for you and good for the kids Sgt. Tibbs. I think you'll do a great job.
My daughter and her boyfriend are in Vietnam right now on their travels. They visited an orphanage and brought toys. She said when the kids spotted them walking up the driveway, they all started jumping up and down and screaming. She wants to bring one home. I said do it.
Here she is with the kids.

While I applaud that sentiment Dar & Sibeer, my only concern is that there are soooo many kids waiting for adoption here in the US that to me it seems wrong to go outside the country. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it, just one of those random things that I wonder about.....

Thought I'd share. This is from just before Christmas so they're all a bit bigger now, but these are our kids. (oh yeah...my scanner is possessed, so we had to take a picture of the picture, but whatever :)).

Surprised, no. Recently I heard statics on the number one cause of death in children and it's homicide, with parents being the main offenders.

I get happy when I see happy, smiling kids. They are to be cherished, as they ain't little for long. You've all got to take great credit for what you've done for these kids, Beth. Who knows what would have happened if their lousy bum of a father got control of their upbringing.
@ Darlene. I know how you feel. I sit with my head in my hands after reading about the latest report detailing the horrifying lengths some people go to to hurt (or worse) children. I hope I live to see the day when these reptiles are washed from the face of the earth.
Apologies for turning such a touching thread into a rant, but the thought of those three wee ones being 'brought up' by that vermin father of theirs boils my water. Scumbag.
    Sorry, it won't happen again.

Joey darlin'...Please, NEVER apologize for turning anything of mine relating to our kids into a rant, especially about douchebag "fathers" or other parents!

On a positive note, I got an "I love you", or at least her version of it, out of the oldest one two days ago. She won't say it, but she blows in your face. She thinks it's her secret and no one knows what it means, so you have to not react in any way but to make it a game out of blowing in her face back. However, inside, I wanted to simultaneously jump up and down, burst into tears, break into song, and squeeze her so hard her eyes popped out. LOL

you know was their way of kisses. Sweet!

  31. bigtrucks

They are so cute. Especially the older one trying so hard to keep from smiling. She going to be special. Not the others won't. As far as kisses go my younger grand daughter her mother and I have 3 different types of kisses. The butterfly kiss-get eye to eye having your eye lashes touching and blinking your eyes fast so the lashes touch each other.2. The well known Eskimo kiss- nose to nose rubbing and last but not least the blowing kiss-kiss the hand and blow it to the person. We like the butterfly kiss the most. It gets you closer to the child so you can get a hug too!LOLI'm sure their parents will do a fine job of raising them right. I mean they don't dare do anything wrong with Aunt Tibbs around:-D(not that they would even) Best of luck with to the parents and Aunt Tibbs.

The official court date is April 29 at 9:00am. One day off from being exactly a year since they came into our lives. The whole fam-damly is going to be there, and then we're going out for ice cream. LOL

Nope, they're DONE! :-D Ditto the bio grandparents. Just us. :-D This is the formal adoption. The judge apparently lets the kids bang their own gavel if they want to. The two older ones definitely do. LOL

That's another step closer to happiness for all of you. I'm glad your niece has got herself a concrete timescale to focus on and look forward to.
April 29th, is that the actual date the kids legally become part of your family? Or are there further legal issues?
Either way, have a great time at the ice cream parlour. Have one for me. I like mint chocolate chip. :yum

  40. Sgt. Tibbs

No further issues of any kind. As of when we walk out of the courtroom on the 29th they're not only ours, but they are apparently being issued new birth certificates with their new middle and last names (we're also changing the spelling of their boy's name, because it was dumb LOL ). :-D

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I just got home from going with them as a sort-of au pair to Chicago for four days. :)

  41. darlene1029

    darlene1029 A Grand Lady- R.I.P. 06/06/2012

wow, new birth certificates, can't get any more permanent then that. I wonder but on the other hand I really don't want to know what those poor babies must have gone through, I know it had to be bad to warrant being taken away from their biological parents. It boggles my mind how anyone can abuse a child in any way. I'm glad they are safe and have new lives.
An au pair huh, will you be known as aunt au pair? LOL being silly ;)
