things i love about the 'lounge'

1) anonymity
2) time and space to speak your view without being interrupted or shouted down
3) variety of topics
4) intelligent reasoned responses
5) sense of 'belonging'

that was just off the top of my head in response to the rather lively previous conversation.

There are some good folks that do, or have, hung out here. Cheers to you that are, and fond memories of those gone.

 

most people here that frequent the Lounge are not in my age group (20's)... am i don't relate to many of the subjects being discussed in the threads so i usually just lurk and throw my 2 cents in when a topic comes up that i either have an opinion about, or am interested in...

but i love being able to ask just about anything and usually getting great advice/information from the people on this forum... the moderators have done a great job to ensure that there is no immature flaming and general nonesense that you find on so many other internet forums these days...

i think people are scared to misbehave here =]

Yeh the lounge is a great place, you can say (almost) anything, political debates, talk on modding cars and buying new computers, it's the craze I tells ya!!!

 

Thats very kind of you star. I feel privilaged to be mentioned in a list. I never get mentioned in lists. WAAAA its all too emotional!

Seriously though*, the lounge is a great place for the core community members to talk about anything. The best thing is that this particular community breeds people who make inteligent conversation, people who do not generally don't stay long.

There have been times when we've been a little - shall we say - inundated with people who don't reflect the attitude of the general community. We have lost members to events such as that, which has been a great shame. Some people just find somewhere else they like better.

People say that the 2002 crew was the "Golden Age" here, but really looking at it objectively we have many quality members here today too. Just because the old farts who came in 2002 all met then doesn't mean it was really any better I admit, what with membership growing every day its easy to seperate yourself from the rest of the community - some people go exclusivley to the Help forums and never down here - with good reason most of the time. In 2002 that would be quite an odd thing to do, but some people now come here for only one forum exclusivley, and thats quite normal.

Anyway, thats my ramble over, you can carry on with your lives now!

My personal favorites are the lounge and the hardware forum, for many of the reasons already stated here...but importantly...you get the feeling of belonging, even among the ones that have helped establish this great forum!!!

yay I am a biscuit! And star's biscuit! Well my day just got extremely happy (and it's only 1:58am!)

Oh and uh, what ELSE could i love more about the Lounge than you guys? The internet is such an awesome place - some people say meeting others on the internet is loserish but i disagree completely. You meet sooo many wonderful people that you really have a connection with, and that you would never meet in real life. Some of my most close relationships came from people I met on ze world wide web. and that's not a lie by any means - believe me.

And of course, it's also a place where i can make fun of Star. But I admit he can probably out-dance me. aaaaaaahahahaahahhaha...but no, he is my muffin *hugs*

there's so many people to name, that i love to death - Chris, Abby, cindy and Eric, GT, Bluesman, goldy, Kodo, Halo, wenchie, and my old peeps like Gaz, Mthead, Thead, fw, gensu, Darkheart, Iceman, canon....the list goes on and on. I feel so bad naming people cause i allllways leave someone out but, you guys know i love you all...

the weird thing for me to grasp is that i'll probably be an active member of this forum for as long as the site stays in business... i don't envision myself joining any other tech support site or computer related forums... hard to imagine that some of the same people will probably be talking on here for many years to come... i'm definetely a satisfied forum-goer... my puter says to say "thank you"

Well, How the heck are ya Halo?? Long time no see!!

It's going pretty good. I just changed jobs,, (first day was yesterday) less hard work, less pressure,, more than double the salary, more than triple the benefits. Took all of 3 seconds of intense soul searching to make up my mind on that one.

I've also had the cowbell one, and a couple Elf ones too. I never dislike him in his roles, even if his character is a poo. I read that people love him so much because he truly does have this innocence about him. He's never mean-spirited or annoying (well some might disagree with the latter but to me, he's not one bit).

I know iamien is still alive, he's on my MSN contact list and pops up from time to time. The others, no idea. Maybe we should organise an Internet search party... you think that would work?
