you know those dog collers that deliver an electric shock that stops dogs from barking, or going outside of a specified area?? any parents of teenage boys out there?

truth be known, we are 'rained in', so we are bored, so the only thing to do is drink beer and smoke wacky baccy (still tobacco free woopee), so everything is somewhat more amusing than 'normal'. still the idea of my mouthy 13yr old wearing a shock collar would make me laugh ANY day.

Oh man, it could be used as therapy for emo-kids :D

(if anyone doesn't know what emo is, then this might help:

Stereotypically emo kids wear thick black rimmed NHS glasses and like to get emotional about everything - a shock collar that detects when they start whinging about their girlfriend/school/job/world affairs/cup of tea that went cold before they drank it/whatever would be hillarious! I feel a flash animation coming on :D)

by the way, just in case anyone ever thinks about getting one for their dog...don't...they don't work. what happens is (and i HAVE witnessed this) is the dog will run through the invisible fence after whatever, and simply get zapped mid air, and hit the ground still running after whatever. however on the way back...without the incentive, the dog cant get back in. so it kind of has the opposite effect. very funny to watch. not very politically correct.

A good friend of mine had his dog jump the fence as you described and he was killed by a car. On the other hand I know about a dozen people that have it, including one with a Dobie and another with a Husky, and as yet no escapes. I think that they are most effective when installed while the dog is young. It`s the old "old dog, new tricks" thing.

    Spike...LMAO

They DO work and quite effectively. It does help to have them installed when the dog is younger but old dogs can be taught too...the biggest factor in it's success is the 'master'. You have to take the time to work with the dog daily to train them to recognize the boundaries and the signal that the collar emits before the progressive zaps. If you have a dog owner who doesn't know how to train their pet properly with consistency and praise by all involved then there will be failures.

Granted some pets are incorrigible but by in large, the failures of invisible fences falls back on the pet owner.

In other words you have to be smarter that the critter you are attempting to train !!!!!

    LOL...EXACTLY!

There are far to many people in this world that have no business having children and the same can be said for having pets.

Funny, that comment comes to mind whenever I see people "walking" their children on leashes.

I imagine this might be a controversial topic, but that irks the hell out of me. They aren't dogs!

I hear that! I never understood those 'leashes' for kids. Whenever I went anywhere with my kids we always held hands..it was a rule, there was no choice...be it walking to the store when we lived closer, when we went to the mall or an amusement park. Those leashes are as easy for a kid or kidnapper to undo as they are for them to open a medicine bottle when a parent has their head turned..at least if you are holding the child's hand you can feel them right there and also break their fall if they trip! b/c you are constantly 'aware' of the child.

I am a cat person myself. I have found they are so docile as compared to
    dogs and teenagers.
