so on the local news they were discussing the traffic problems in Honolulu. apparently people here drive with 'too much aloha', and slow down in order to let others join the freeway!! the other 'big' problem was the sun shining in your eyes eastbound in the morning and west bound in the evening!!

im not making this up. :)

We have same problems re: the sun. The problem, is most people have no clue how to drive, or the road rules. Figures for 'Hicksville', I guess.

I never noticed "too much aloha" in the various cab rides I took in Honolulu. Instead, I thought the traffic was worse than I'd seen in Chicago or Los Angeles...but slower. :D

I enjoy the transit system in hawaii, cheap and no parking? You also get to talk to the locals.

there is no 'transit system' on the big island, you drive or you hitch. this is oahu. you can see the highway under the mountain. if any of you visit there i would recomend a side along highway 3 and back. i was wrong about where H1 is, as you see it runs along the bottom, but you get the general idea.

That's why one stay's on the North shore, and kicks back through that mess let the howlies deal with all that stress...

If it wasn't for my sister and her family, I would pack my bags and be over there in a heartbeat... I just fear that if i did move over there I would never get to see my sister or my nieces and nephews again.. but i'm not ruling it out... I've never been a very spontaneous person but I'm really dying to experience Hawaii... Maybe i'll commit myself to taking my next vacation there, get a feel for how beautiful it is, and then work on the rest...

If it's any help, I've got Honolulu pictures from last month (which is Oahu, not the big island). :D link

i arrived here by 'accident', and it took me two whole days to decide i couldnt leave! the fare from the mainland is only about $500, and is not that hard to get together. in adddition a great many people visit me here, (surprise, surprise) so i dont feel that cut off. my long distance phone bill gets a bit frightening though. much aloha

Nice photos. The area behind the USS Arizona is all woody, Are the docks, etc all gone from WW@ era? Or did the trees overtake from lack of being cut down?

They've all been taken out, to the best of my knowledge. What little was left of them.

You're welcome, ANHEDONIC. I want to go back. :D
