Think I got rid of virus/spyware but PC still freezing

Hey I followed the steps provided except for turning off System Restore because the problem isn't 100% fixed yet. The steps helped me get rid of the spyware that was apparent on my PC and no virus was detected using the most updated version of avast! home edition..but every 20-30 minutes my PC will slow down and i can not operate any of the programs.

I am running a pretty fast PC (Amd Athlon 64 3500+ w/ 1GB of ram) so i know that is not the case, and the freezing did not happen until after the Virus. I think the virus may have messed with the registry? (sorry I am noob to software) Please someone help me before I go crazy and just reformat this thing!

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
