I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what to do - I'd like to solve this without having to reinstall windows and lose everything.
A couple weeks ago I noticed some problems with my computer and I did some maintenance but it's only getting worse.
*I can access websites through my google toolbar but if I enter the website into the address bar nothing happens.
*I tried to use my Blackberry desktop software but it doesn't open. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but I get an error message that says the intallation was interrupted and I should try again.
*When I press the send receive button in outlook, nothing happens.
*The notification comes up that I need to update my computer through windows but the updates don't install
*McAfee won't do a virus scan. The button is there but when I click it nothing happens.
*tried to do a trend-micro online virus scan and it wouldn't scan.
*tried to install Anti-Vir from Major Geeks and it won't download.

So far these are the issues that I have. Someone suggested that I install hijack this and I have the log.

I also did a CWShredder scan and nothing came up

    Thanks for helping

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, renaming, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Okay, so I ran all the scans and would attach the logs BUT the Manage Attachments button is not working on this computer! I'm so frustrated. I have another computer where I can use the manage attachment button. Is there anything I can do? I'll try to close the browser and try again. If that's successful I'll have another post. If not I'll just leave this one as it is. Thank you!

After all the maintenance here are the remaining problems:

    *Blackberry software does not start.

*Mcafee software will not scan for viruses
Tried to use counter spy but my computer won't do it. In fact, any link that you gave to antivirus software or any link to download anti virus or anti spyware software on a website does not work on this computer. I had to pull it up on another computer and type in the address and download that way. It will download anti spyware but not anti virus.

*The computer will not run Panda Active Scan, Counter Spy, AVG.

What I didn't say in my last post is that I turned off the pop up blocker yesterday and I checked that it's still off.

Tried again to send attachments. Error on Page error in lower left corner of browser.

Since you did not say which browser you are using, I will assume that it is IE. Try using this browser Mozilla FireFox instead. Let me know the results.

There are quite a few infections out there that cause problems like you are describing where no antivirus applications (or similar) will work and access to antivirus and antispyware sites and even malware fixining sites like Major Geeks can get blocked by the malware. You should also run the below, which may help!

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
[*]It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
[*]Run HostsXpert.exe, click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
[*]Click the X to exit the program
Aso run this ChodeFix - How download and run
