As we all come from different walks of life I thought it will be interesting and enlightening to ponder a few real life things. You may have to give this considerable thought....utilize those brain cells people! lol

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

    Why?

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

    Why?

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

    Why?

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you? Can be environmental, a person or people, your job, idiots that shouldn't have a drivers license, your health...what or who pushes your buttons the most...

    Why?

    Superb question Abby :)

I will try and give the best answers I can....

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

My late grandfather, who I think I inherited my need for wanting to know how things work and why, he loved technology and was always asking me what new tech I had bought and wanted a demo on it next time I saw him.

He also had great appitite for life and even when ill, still gave his ailments the finger on bad days, which taught me to live life to the full and fight whatever is thrown at me.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

Difficult one and I will have to think about this answer more as their have been a few

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

My mum, as to why she has a great feeling for any question asked and gives a sensible answer rather than a ill-thought out one. Stopped me from doing a few silly things ( other than the ones I jump straight in on ) in my life.

also my sister, who is spookily gives the same answer to questions that I was thinking, sometimes know what each is thinking before anything is said.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you? Can be environmental, a person or people, your job, idiots that shouldn't have a drivers license, your health...what or who pushes your buttons the most...

All of the above suggestions, but seriously it's people who just decide to be selfish, be that cuttting someone up on the road, the idiot who parks across our driveway because they are too lazy to walk 10 feet more TO the Government who just dont listen to be people who elected them into office.

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

Without a doubt, my late mom. My father died when I was 5, she was forced to work to raise two kids when a working mom wasn't the norm for the day. Instilled values and a work ethic in me that, to this day, I appreciate more than I'll could ever explain.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

If she was still here, it would have been my mom again, but I would have to say my 3 managers at the Cape. Having the responsibility these men do with multi-million dollar decisions to make each day, all while working with a considerable danger factor on their shoulders...and never showing one bead of sweat while doing it.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

Personally, probably Abby's; she's a good counter opinion when my mind is overactive ;)
Professionally, Roy Bridges, former director of KSC.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?

Lazy, ignorant people who feel the world owes them everything, and put more of an effort into ripping the system than contributing to it. Close second: people who have an opinion on everything, whether they know what they are talking about or not.

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

My father, a WW2 vet., who came back scarred from all the death and killing. He conquered alcoholism and became a chiropractor. Had the highest integrity of any person I've ever known. He loved people.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

My dad, again. He always went the extra mile, gave the extra effort, helped his friends and those he didn't know, as a matter of principle.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

My wife. SHEWHOMUSTBEOBEYED is her nickname on all the boards and forums I visit. She is feared by many (but she's a pussycat). She rescued me from an inane existence.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?

Our totally bolloxed-up judicial system whereby people sue to try to hit the lottery instead of honestly working toward financial gain. I could do without most trial lawyers. The win-at-all-cost mentality tends to bend the truth at will and forget that there is STILL right and wrong, period.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

hubby, he is my true soul mate. he applies logic to my emotions and emotions to my logic. i also value my daughters opinion. she credits me with all she is, but the truth is that she is twice the person i was at her age. both these people know and love me, so they are careful in their criticisms, (which I'm not good with), and encouraging in their advise.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?

smoking cigarettes. i need to quit, but it just ain't easy.

Wow...just what I needed after a mind-numbing five hours at the office! :D

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?
It's a tossup between my mom and the current business agent in my union local.

    Why?
Mom spent 23 years as a housewife, then suddenly found herself divorced, raising two kids (my oldest two sisters were out of the house already), and needing to re-enter the workforce. She taught me to be independent, to make the best of what I've got, and to always believe I can and will do and have better.

My business agent has taken my fledgling career and made it grow. Not that I didn't do a lot myself, but he believed in me and showed me opportunities I wouldn't have otherwise known about or thought I could take advantage of.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?
    My second-oldest sister.

    Why?
She is successful in all the ways that count, and she's been happy getting there. After building a great life, she walked away from it (and lost everything), then built herself another one. There is no BS with her, what you see is what you get.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?
    Honestly? Mine.

    Why?
There are other people's opinions I take into consideration, and some carry more weight than others. But I know that when I form an opinion on something, it's after careful consideration of facts and feelings. And if I can't value my own opinion, what would be the point in having one?

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?
    Stupidity, or perhaps simple ignorance.

    Why?
I haven't the patience for people or things that waste my time and energy because they don't get simple concepts or processes. Thus I spend way too much time being annoyed by it, because instead of being able to let it go, it gets stuck under my skin and grates on my nerves.

Abby, this was a very different post, but will try to answer as best that I can!
    1. My Mother
Why: Because she put up with both me and my father while I was growing up.

    2. My father
Why: My father always took the time to answer any question that I asked to the best of his ability. Please bear in mind that my father was born in 1903, and was totaly lost on some of the questions that I asked, but he admitted as much and suggested that I ask others.

    3. My own.
Why: Because after everything is said and done, the outcome of anything decided/determined is that. It is done and over with, makes no difference how you feel or what you think about the issue.

    4. Stupidity.
Why: In my work place I see it running rampant with no checks.

Very insightful, thoughtful responses...thank you:) Now to try and answer this myself..it's something I've pondered for a while and find somewhat difficult to answer.

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

I can't pick just one..it's a tie between my father and my grandmother.

    Why?

My father b/c he taught me to be an observer, pay attention to the little details so the most difficult puzzles in life could be put together to really see the whole picture for what it was. To use my mind and logic rather than let my emotions rule me. To 'see' the patterns, however subtle which allowed me to be prepared for whatever came my way. And, b/c even when I screwed up he still loved me unconditionally and taught me to use my experiences as a lesson learned and move on rather than see it as failure that would haunt me or make me doubt myself.

My grandmother b/c she was the one person I always wanted to be like. She was smart as a whip, kind, considerate, loving and giving. She was always there for me when I needed an ear or a hug. I could talk to her about anything and she never judged me or criticized me. She had a way of setting me straight when I needed it that was always loving and respectful and b/c of how she talked to me in a logical, loving, non-judgmental way, it carried more weight than what anyone else said. If it wasn't for her ability to really see "me" and the pain I was in emotionally more than once I wouldn't be here now. She saved my life...and I miss her more than I could ever possibly express. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v173/star17abby/cry.gif

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

    Same as above.

    Why?

For many of the same reasons as stated along with several others. I can only hope to live up to the example they have set for me. I have tried so very hard to learn from them even when I was in one of my rebellious pig-headed stages and didn't want to. My dad continues to lay down some pretty impressive foot steps to follow in.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

    Chris & my dad.

    Why?

Chris b/c he has this uncanny ability to put things in perspective for me especially when I'm feeling rather confused or emotional. He's usually dead on accurate and sometimes that's a hard pill to swallow;):D

My dad cuz he's smart and logical, sometimes irritatingly so. lol Even if we don't agree on certain points I highly value his opinion b/c he's usually right and I see that in the end.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?

So many things come to mind this is a tough one for me. As I don't work outside the home I don't face many of the things I used to but I still have my share of stresses.

Stupidity. Ignorance is one thing...there are many areas all of us are ignorant in but stupidity is a whole new ball game. Stupid people drive me crazy!

Laziness, and attitudes from those that think they can say and do what they please despite being told otherwise. A total disrespect for anyone or anything. Many kids today are a prime example..sadly, many so-called adults encourage said behaviors and think it's cute or funny...they are also prime examples. They shoot off their mouths, think vulgarity makes them cool and have a total disregard for anyone but themselves and those who are like them. Lest not forget they can do no wrong!

Close-minded people. No need to elaborate here it's self-explanatory.

Society as a whole is not a perfect place. We all know that. [RANT] But those that choose to go through life and carry their stupidity-attitudes-immaturity proudly make me sick. They say it takes all kinds to make the world go round but I'll never understand how people can choose to go through life this way. And yes, it is I believe without a doubt, a choice. Yes we are all influenced by how we are raised, our environment as a whole and the things that happen to us, however as adults we make a conscious choice as to where we go from there. Sadly we have far to many people in this world who are so lazy and full of self-pity b/c they didn't have the 'perfect' childhood they go through life expecting everything to be handed to them on a silver platter never gaining any self-worth or respect except from those who are like minded...they feed off each other like vultures..it's disgusting. No one is perfect but sheesh...make a little effort to better yourself and stop acting like a king or queen sized jerk...GROW UP and get a life! You are an embarrassment to yourself and others but can't see it b/c you choose not to. Life is there for you...you just have to want it and make a little effort...make the best from the cards that have been dealt. You want respect & consideration and all that goes with it in real life, DO something constructive about it!!! [/RANT]

    Phew! I feel better;) LOL

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

God..why? Because He has helped me achieve and become something that no other person was able to do.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

My mother-in-law and my husband.....hard to choose. Both amazing, selfless people.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?
My husband's, because he is always fair yet firm, adn I know his response to any situation will not be for personal gain.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you? After this weekend I'm tempted to say teenagers lol, but seriously, people who are negative about themselves, constantly complain about how rough they have it and no-one does anything for them, yet are not prepared to get off their backsides and do anything about it for themselves. To them I say this: Suck it up dudes...life's real!!! :D

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?
My Dad. Just the stuff I learned from him. If somebody designed it we can fix it or build it.
Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?
Right now, my eldest daughter. Worked her way through University (some help from us) by waiting tables, and graduated with a degree in chem. She has exceptional drive and determination.
Whose opinion do you value most above all others?
At work, another tech whose been there almost as long as me. At home, my wife. Here, Abby-Sue.;) (pretty much a copout)
What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you?
Money and only money. When I have money concerns, other problems become amplified, sometimes to the point where I crash and burn

    Wenchie I R teh brat

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?
My parents, but not in a positive way. They were the society models that I grew up with determined to turn out the opposite. If they hadn't been so crappy I would have never cared to be a better person.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?
Kahlyn. She's been through more in her short 5 years than most people in 25 and she remains positive and cheerful. Even if she's evil, she's still sweet and smiling and I love that about her.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?
Jim, even though he's a dork.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you? Can be environmental, a person or people, your job, idiots that shouldn't have a drivers license, your health...what or who pushes your buttons the most...

I would say it was the choices I seem to make in male companionship. Not to alarm anyone, but this past thursday I was beaten quite severly and there is a warrant out for an arrest... Nothing broken and my face was spared, but everything else is ugly. That whole ordeal has left me with scars for life and will likely never allow me to get close to another human being again.

A little hard to answer these - there have been and are different people and emotions at different times in my life. Here is what readily came to my mind on reading the questions. Good thread, by the way . . .

Who is or was the most influential person in your life?

The most important I would have to say is my wife (of almost four years now!). She is the only individual I know who has made me want to be a better person - and that just by being there. I love that woman.

Who in your life do you have the greatest respect/admiration for?

A sister-in-law who has the most wonderful outlook on life, even though she is fighting a multitude of physical woes, including a kidney transplant. She manages to find the bright spot in any dark situation.

Whose opinion do you value most above all others?

My father, I would have to say. The wisest man I know.

What in your day to day living has the biggest negative effect on you? Can be environmental, a person or people, your job, idiots that shouldn't have a drivers license, your health...what or who pushes your buttons the most...

Probably my own tendency to be a bit pessimistic about life in general. Unlike my sister-in-law, I tend to find the dark spot in any bright situation . . . I don't dwell on the possible negative aspects of a thing, but I do visit those aspects often. I am getting better - mainly on account of my aforementioned wife. I want her to stop calling me eeyore!
