its an annoying error in my Device Manager. i'm not sure if it has any negative effect on the system but just being there it makes me uncomfortable.

Its Under the "Ports (COM & LPT)" sections and its comm port (COM2). there seems to be some conflict with something because i already have another (COM2) that is running fine. any ideas on what causes it and how to fix it?

If you don't know what it is & your system is running OK then it is probably not needed. You could open the device manager, right click on it then properties. From there depending on the OS you can disable it.

Reboot & see if all is well. I've done the same thing for something, can't remember what & you don't get the exclamation or error showing up.

well, i got a program called My Drivers. backed up the Com port driver (6 files). restarted. now i have 2 unknown devices, windows cant find any drivers for them, not on my Win XP cd, not on my motherboard cd. the program My Drivers has a restore option, but when i go to the folder in which they were saved, the folder is called system speaker for some reason, it wants an .inf file, but there is none. now i'm stuck with 2 unknow devices :(. what are COM1 and COM2 for anyway.
