I really need to have Tibbs come bake for me! Yumm. :)

It's crazy how similar our schedules sound, kat. I'm doing fancy Christmas eve dinner for 13 people so have to start today getting prep and anything I can do ahead of time done. Then I have to cook a dish for Christmas dinner at my parents. Then I have to cook a dish for the day after Christmas for the inlaws. Sunday will be wonderful.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

No paper plates or plastic cups here, it is China, glass glasses, the good silver, and cloth table cloth and napkins, with the best serving dishes. This only happens on special occasions.;) It is a lot of work but makes me happy!

Agreed. Everyone looks forward to it every year. A ton of work, but the good thing is I love to cook. I refuse to bake though, so store bought pies for everyone here.

I meant to get out the china and silverware for Thanksgiving, but I ran out of time. Thank you for reminding me, kat! It's just mom and I, but sometimes I like to be fancy. :D That's the last time I have to cook, though, as family parties were all last weekend. I'm doing Cornish hens roasted with root vegetables, turnip green and pearl onion gratin, hearts of palm parmesan salad, buttermilk biscuits, and lemon sponge puddings for dessert. All of which means the slug I've been being since everybody left Sunday night needs to get out of this recliner and to the store, or much of that can't happen.

I had two different people approach me about buying a tray of mixed whatever I felt like baking next year for them! Might as well... after giving away my six trays of stuff to different people I still have several dozen of each kind of cookie left. Most of them will go in the freezer to be enjoyed later. This is the summary of what I did this year. 2015 Baking Extravaganza

With the whole family together for the holidays here it's only seven people and one of them is an infant. For Christmas dinner the infant and parents went off to the other grandparents in another state, so ti was only four of us. The Guy and I offered to host and got agreement by tempting his parents with prime rib and roasted rosemary potatoes. There was an unfortunate mix-up at the butcher's shop where I pre-ordered the roast, and the mistake was not discovered until I got there to pick it up. I asked for a bone-in prime rib roast cut from three ribs. They gave me one cut from four ribs instead. One rib doesn't sound like much, until you remember that the animal the roast came from is really, really big... my roast was 14.5 lbs! That's 6.6 kgs for everyone outside the US... so, yeah, big roast.

This is what the roast looked like AFTER four adults had eaten as much of it as we could stomach. For scale, the cutting board is the size of a 24-inch computer monitor, and that is a standard 20-inch chef's knife.

That is a big piece of meat Mimsy Hope you like leftovers.:)
Two dinners done and one more to go. Can't believe I am saying this because I have a sweet tooth, but I am tired of dessert!:p I am looking forward to a big pot of chili soon.

It's huge! I told the guy we would have to eat the rest of the prime rib tomorrow and Sunday, and he said he'll try his best to endure.

We had regular brownies for dessert, with the traditional Christmas scotch for those of us who like single malts. Yummy.

Oh, wow, Mimsy! That's a really huge mistake to make. I do hope they at least discounted it instead of charging you full price for all the extra meat! It's got my mouth watering, though. I haven't had a good prime rib in ages.

Dinner at home finally happened. For two of us. I don't know how to cook small.

And dessert, which happened several hours later.

I didn't actually realize the mistake until I unwrapped it to cook it this afternoon. (Why is my edit button on my other post gone? :( )And at that point it was a little too late to complain, seeing as how the shop was closed for Christmas. I will most certainly remember and mention it the next time I'm in the shop though, but to be honest I'm willing to forgive them just because they have such spectacularly good meat in that shop.

Speaking of which, what is that dessert? It looks fantastic!

Ah, gotcha. I've got a meat market much like that here, although I'm willing to bet you'll get a discount next time you're there.

Those are lemon sponge puddings, which I topped with strawberries, blueberries, and sugared mint leaves. I'm pretty sure it came from a diabetic cookbook of some kind, but I didn't make a note when I entered it in my database. They're really, really tasty!

They have always been very accommodating in the past, so I am not worried. :)
