That book rocks. Tons of great info.

I was given that free with the XP resource kit a while back from MS.

It is the worlds greatest book. Its not only a reference but I think it covers every nook and cranny. Worth every cent. Im only a few chapters in and learned things I knew nothing about. And I THOUGHT I knew Windows XP inside out. Someday I will know as much as Adrynalyne and he will fear me ;)

My father did a brief stint working as a troubleshooter for Honeywell a long time ago..

One of his favourites was a lady who called up with a problem during installation.. The manual read:

    Insert Disk 1

    etc

    Insert Disk 2

    etc

    ...

My father couldn't figure out what was wrong, until he realised that manual hadn't said anything about removing disk one before inserting disk two.

    Thank god for CD's..

    I'm glad you liked it..

There was another time when a diskette wouldn't work, so my dad asked them to send a copy of it.

Expecting to find a package in the postbag the next morning, he was surprised to find a piece of fax paper on his desk with the image of a diskette on it..

    Genius.

    Hey!
You mean the book Microsoft Windows XP Inside Out by Ed Bott and Carl Siechert?

Yes. I must add my 2 cents.

One very well done book. And, even a n00b such as myself had little trouble following it.

Its a joy when people who are so well founded in their technical knowledge can write a book that is so accessible to the "general population".....

I was very impressed with it.

Haha... little trivia facts stuck in here & there, too.... (Default amount of hdd space allocated to sys restore ~= 12% ,if I remember rightly)...

Then again, one man's trivia is another man's (tweaker) nugget of gold....... :)

    Hahahahahahaha!!!

If I ever knew 30% of what Adrynalyne knows, I would be such a BigShot in my own mind that I couldn't stand it. It would be the death of me!!!!

    hahahahaha!

    Haha.....
    so, robo, etal...
I'm trying my hand at the C programming language, right? So, every book I get has the same joke in it...... it goes like this...

The programmer goes to take a shower and was their hair. They read the directions on the shammpoo bottle:

    Wet hair
Put shampoo in hair and lather it up.
    Rinse
    Repeat

So, they keep doing this until they run out of shampoo....

(like a "do loop" or something that has no "break point" or what ever....)

    Hahahahahahahahaha!!! :)
