this seems impossible.....

  1. Okay, gonna try and explain this as best I can. I resently reistalled windows XP Home Edition. All my personal files remain intact, however, i had to reinstall all my Programs listed in my Programs file. No biggy. However, this is what is completely missing from my systems tray. Prism Nitro High Performance wireless Networking 802.11G WI-FI WLAN, my NVIDEA - GFORCE FX Card Information (also internal). My possible wireless connection does not even show in the Network tabs. It has completely disappeared. I have checked my internal system with a really neat program called Everest Home Edition, and poof, all these systems are on my computer, however, not being recognized at all. It also says they are active???

    I have a Medion MD40100 Notebook
    Service Pack 1
    512 mb
Mobile Intel Pentium 4, 2800 mhz

    anyhelp is help, thank you.

its not 'this seems impossible' reinstalledforeverlost, its mission: impossible :p (sorry had to do that)

anywas have u checked the drivers?

  3. I think so...I went to the manufacturer site, and downloaded all the updates, and I recovered a lot of drivers off the Support and Programs Recovery CD. But perhaps, i should try again, with the exact proper name of my hardware, download the drivers again and see if this helps. And perhaps someone could tell me, once I install the drivers, how to do i thus tell my hardware to except them, or make it work or dam...does anyone know what im saying????

I agree with prankz and have you checked Device Manager to see if there is any problems with these devices? As you had to reinstall your program files, it may be that you have to reinstall drivers for these. Everest would show them, as they are in your system, but they may not be functioning due to a lack of drivers.:)

  5. Geeez, well i have a brilliant idea to get the drivers off the internet, and try that. Unfortunately i can't seem to find a driver for Harris/intersil PRISM 802.11g Wireless Adapter, and this nVIDIA GeFORCE FX Go 5300/5350 drivers are very confusing...grrr But again, once i find the drivers and install them to my computer, do they automatically start the wireless, or enable the NVidia?

Nvidia uses common drivers for their video cards, so what works for one card, should work for your card. They are available for download at this link.

As for the wireless adapters, intersil is VERY technical...do you perhaps have a part number? This should be listed somewhere on the packaging...

Asking a silly question ...first, does the network card show in device manager? ...and, have you done the setup wizard for make a new connection?

  8. No, the devices have disappeared right out the Device Manager. They do show up on Everest though. I have tried to to install the device drivers, but it says, the hardware isn't found? But its there, or is it???? I was thinking, perhaps that something has happened in the BIOS that is not allowing these programs to run. Im sorry, im not very computer skilled. But, i was also thinking perhaps, backing up the whole sysem. Its not that big really, and i have a portable harddrive to store my information. There is only 25 gigs on my notebook. Perhaps i should just try and run the Reinstallation again.

Since you have an external hard-drive and can preserve the files you want, I think the best course is to do that, and then nuke the drive (totally reformat it) and then reinstall XP. Kind of a PIA, since you have to download and install all the XP updates and such, but it will probably cure your problem. Even if it doesn't, that way you will know that it CAN'T be any file or virus / trojan / NUT (Nasty Unknown Terror) that was on your hard-drive. Then you can install needed drivers, etc. If the problem still rears it's ugly head, you can look for other causes.

I do regular back-up images of my system, and when I run across a situation like yours and all the regular diagnostic tests fail to resolve the issue, I throw up my hands, ascribe the woe to a NUT, and enter the Wayback machine . . . lol

    Good luck
