Thought I would Share...

Two days ago, I started getting a number of rude small minded belittling comments about Kahlyn's art on DeviantArt (http://kahlynussery.deviantart.com/) About how it wasn't REAL art, that she was only 4 it doesn't "count" and so on and so forth. Mostly by some community who went from being a group of people joined in support of the choice to never have kids (not one of them is over 20 - go fig) into the Anti-child third reicht.

things like "Deviant Art is not a family scrapbook. Its purpose is to be like an online portfolio and gathering place for *real* artists, not pre-schoolers. It's hard enough to wade through all of the crap posted on here all of the time, but to expect people to view and comment on this trash? It's ludicrous. Your child is young. Much to young to be considered a real artist. Just wait until she's old enough to start her own gallery to display her works because, legally, she has the copyright to her works, and you may not reproduce them unless she consents. "

and "Ridiculous. This is about the same level of preposterousness as a grown man shitting on canvas and passing it off as "modern art". You must have very little respect for those of us who take creative endeavor seriously"

Well, this made me natually pissed off, and spawned a comment war so long you can't see all of it anymore. They get pushed off the page after a certain number.

Well, the not "real" artist was names FEATURED artist, the very next day. So, being mommy, I had to brag.

Renate...what star said is 100% accurate...don't even bother to dignify any of it with an answer..they are simply fly's on the wall who have nothing better to do with their lives then to go after a 4 year old...I guess that would be a clear indicator of their own mentality/maturity level eh?

 

Well, It amuses me that they did that, because to be a featured artist, an administrator has to put you into the rotation. Meaning all the 'publicity' this caused, caught an adminstrators eye, and THEY decided to settle the arguement, in favor of Kahlyn, by not only declaring her an artist, but the FEATURED artist. Which all in all amused me alot, and I wish I knew which one to thank them.

 

Who are those people anyway ??
Isn't wonderful that a 4 year old child has the ability to express herself in a creative way.

This may be an off-shoot of a similar incident. Evidently some 4 or 5 yr old girl purported to be a prodigy, whose original art sells in the 10s of thousands, is getting some flack. A hidden camera showed her actual paintings were not the quality of those sold in studios.

Not that Kahlyn deserved these comments, but these are probably bitter people whose hopes of discovering new talent in our children were dashed.

 

Your daughter is a fine artist. I hope you always encourage her.

I mounted a HUGE corkboard on the wall in our kitchen to hang up our sons art after every square inch of the refrigerator was already covered!

Those people who wrote those comments obviously don't have children

Your daughter and her art are adorable! And she obviously has a good Mom. As far as the smug, self-righteous, jealous "critics"- screw 'em! They are lacking something, or they wouldn't get so bent over a parent's pride.

 

Congrats to Kay for getting the Featured Artist!! As for those putzes who can't wrap their mind around the fact that someone else can produce something that others can appreciate is just selfish.

 

People with negative attitudes are very rarely worth a response. The only time it's worth it is if you need to vent, because nothing you say will change them

Nah, they didnt call her names or use profanity, they just had there heads up their asses. As new comments come in, old one push back, so anyone here with a DA account, iff you can, leave sometihng nice for Kay and we'll just push all the garbage away.

Gee whizz, let the little girl have some fun. These wannabe's are just upset because their art sucks. I know it.

Now, I'm no artist, I don't even appreciate art, I know nothing about it, I admit it, I accept it.

But, I do know this. There was a way fancy famous artist named Pablo Picasso (I think -- someone correct me if I'm wrong), who tried for YEARS to learn how to paint like a child does.

So, all of this persitant trying, striving, for this famous master artisan, painter, to try to paint like a child. FINALLY, he got it. That's what the art teachers say. He finally "got it".

And these lamers get upset because their being told to share the stage with their bull$|-|17 graphics.

Hey Renate. I actually thought Kahy's pics were pretty good. Some of them are pretty advanced for her age. Four? Old codgers like me wonder where the time goes so fast!

Basically, those so-called 'critics' can just be ignored and treated with the contempt they deserve. Don't blame you for getting annoyed with them, though.

Oh. b.t.w.: I've seen Jackson Pollock's work that sells for millions, and Kahy's is way better (really).

(Some idiot Prime Minister bought one (Pollock) for umpteen tens of millions of dollars, now hanging in Parliment House, ROFL!)

This is supposed to be worth millions, yeah right!

 

I think I can draw ALMOST as good as Kahlyn. Maybe I'll set up a portfolio there, and see what comments I can garner. Our house was filled with kid art as they grew up. Some of it is still up. These stupid artsy fartsy people don't understand that kid art is real, unlike a lot of the pretentious (sp?) crap thats out there.

 

Well, lets see - I see her art conveys emotion ( "I feel mad" ), Good use of color on the more abstract pieces of work, and the rest are very evocative, expressing feelings and joys we all experience.

Looks like art to me.

 

I know this thread was made a long time ago, but I just had to comment. I thought it was so cute when she was featured. It was one of those in-your-face type of moments.
