Thumbs up or down on System Mechanic paid by Iolo?

I'm talking about the $39.99 version, not the complete $59.99 version. It's free on a rebate special this week at Fry's, or I wouldn't be considering it.

It has some features that interest me. I'm not sure I want to run it realtime on my old XP system.

What's your experience with System Mechanic?

 

I would never pay a dime for software that changed things on its own accord. Period.

 

Any programs that fool with your registry are guaranteed to screw up your computer.
You can do a clean install and it will still find errors.

All you need to do is defrag your volumes yourself. Even for free - not worth it.

Right. But as I said it's free right now.

I am aware of this concern, and because of it, I won't use any One Click modules, much less the registry cleaner module on programs like Advanced System Care or Glary Utilities.

Thanks. There are many customers who give it glowing reviews. It averages 4 stars on 133 votes at CNET. A lot of people supported it on the thread at pcmag.com. I would like to hear more about of what you have to say about its problems.

 

How many of those "glowing reviews" are actually created by the developers themselves?

Here, I'll give you my review: I used the free version awhile back, and the next day I had to reinstall Windows because it won't even load anymore. That's my review.

It would seem that you are convinced that the programme is OK and you just want someone to agree with you. You have been given some very sage advice in previous posts, my advice is heed it!

 

For your information I did not end up getting the Iolo program. So you aren't clairvoyant as some of you seem to think you are.
