Occasionally I will here thunder from the speakers (or headphones). This happens on all three computers. #1 HP Pavillian a520n, #2 Dell Dimention 8200, #3 Dell Dimension 8250. The only commonalities are the cable modem and router. The router is a Netgear RP614v2, and the modem is a Linksys BEFCMU10 ver. 3. Another point of interest is that the sound does not occur on all computers at the same time. All computers have onboard sound. I updated the sound drivers om my computer. Did not fix the problem

Yeah? The presence of weather systems would suggest there is more in common than that - ;). Surely you have installed software on each. When did the problem start? The same unwanted event on 3 computers suggests it is caused by a file you, or a badguy installed on your computers. Since malware wants to propagate and often immediately seeks other networked computers to infect, like those in the trusted zone of your router and computer based firewalls, it could have been downloaded on one, then quickly distributed to the others. So, to help establish a baseline, I recommend purging each computer's hard drives of clutter with Windows (XP or Vista) Disk Cleanup, ATF Cleaner (XP only) or CCleaner. If using CCleaner, uncheck option to install Yahoo toolbar during installation. Before first use, go to Options > Settings > Advanced and ensure Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours is unchecked.

Note: Know your site credentials (user name and password) for sites you frequent before cleaning; you may have to login again at next visit.

Download and install Malwarebytes's Anti-Malware (MBAM) then scan as follows:
    Check for updates before scanning,
Select Perform quick scan > Scan,
When complete, click OK, then Show Results,
Ensure all is selected, and click Remove Selected,
When complete, save the log in Notepad to a convenient place for future reference.

Do this on one computer connected to your router at time. Leave each computer disconnected until sure all computers are clean so you don't immediately reinfect a cleaned one. Do this for all computers on your network (everything on your side of the Internet "gateway" device - typically a Cable or DSL modem).

Thanks for your interest. I found the culprit. The Weather Channel desktop has a thunder clap that indicates that there is a weater alert in the area.
