Thunderbird + Gmail + AVG

I guess thunderbird, Gmail and AVG are quite popular. But has anyone ever succeeded in make them work together?

I receive my POP Gmail in Thunderbird and I have AVG installed.

I read this, but that didn't really help me.

I want virus scanning for both incoming and outgoing e-mail.

Being that these are the options they offer, looks like the combo of Thunderbird & AVG isn't happening yet.

 

Maybe AVG's online documentation is not up-to-date. Gmail can be configured in Thunderbird while AVG scans incoming and outgoing mail.

1) If you have a software firewall (like Zone Alarm) make sure AVG is configured to access the internet.

2) If you have a software firewall disable the e-mail virus scanning feature because two virus scanners sometimes causes a conflict.

3) Do you see a popup from AVG in the bottom right hand corner of the screen when Thunderbird connects to incoming or outgoing e-mail? That would be AVG scanning new messages.

4) Far as attachments go, with Thunderbird, you have to download attachments to execute them, and AVG scans them on disk access.

5) There's a new forum for AVG. I bet they're asked this question everyday.
