after years of working just fine I suddenly find myself unable to send email via thunderbird. I receive the following error message.

    Sending of message failed.
An error occurred sending mail: Unable to authenticate to SMTP server smtp.att.yahoo.com. The server does not support any compatible secure authentication mechanism but you have chosen secure authentication. Try switching off secure authentication or contact your service provider.

I've reviewed my settings repeatedly and they match what att says they're supposed to be but still no luck.

    Thanks
    A

Your stored password might have changed. Try deleting it and let Thunderbird ask you for it again:

    1. To get to the stored password, in Thunderbird, click on "Tools" -> "Options".

    2. Click on the "Privacy" icon on the top of the window.

    3. Click on the "Passwords" tab on the top of the window.

    4. Click on the "Edit Saved Passwords" button.

    5. Click on the "Passwords Saved" tab.

    6. Click on the "Show Passwords" button.

    7. Click "Yes" to see the saved passwords.

    8. Click on the site from which you want to remove your password (even if the password looks right, it may not be).

    9. Click on the "Remove" button. This will remove the password that is stored in Thunderbird.

    10. Click on the "Hide Passwords" button

    11. Click on the "Close" button to close the Password Manager window.

    12. Click "OK" on the Options window.

    13. Close Thunderbird.

    14. Re-open Thunderbird.

    15. When Thunderbird opens, it will prompt you for a new password.

    16. Enter your password, select to save it and click "OK".

I think they do that just to keep it interesting! ;)
Glad it's sorted. Thanks for the update.
