timoty.exe and maybe more

I'm new to Major Geeks... it's a very informative site! I've read your posting guidelines and hopefully this adheres to those guidelines:

I've got a 2.5 year old HP Pavilion (Pent. 4, 512MB SD Ram, 200GB hard drive) running on Windows XP. I've experienced the same issue as hindtm described in his thread communications with TimW beginning on 11-24-07 at 14:23..

I know I have at least the same timoty.exe issue, and maybe more going on with my computer that's disabled my task manager, registry editor and control panel as well as initiating a "Windows Security Alert" saying "Warning Potential spyware operation! Your computer is making anuauthorized copies of your system and internet files. Run full scan now to pervent any unathorised access to your files! Click YES to download spyware remover..." The message has those typos so I believe it's connected with the problem. I did not check YES but called HP, we downloaded Smitfruad, ran it on my system in safe mode both as an administrator and hp owner, also ran HiJackThis and they ran it through some identifying software.. we attempted to "fix" some of the same items that TimW recommended hindtm do. We had no luck in resolving the problem. HP said they'd do some research but basically suggested performing a system recovery. My thought was to follow the directions laid out in the thread I'm referring to here at Major Geeks, however, I didn't have all the items that TimW recommended fixing and I'm a novice computer guy so I was hoping for help and assistance.
