Tiny WU's

I'm getting lot's of small WU's again - my monthly average is halved!!
Anyone know what's going on?

 

Can you copy what's in the unitinfo.txt file when you're doing these WUs? I've not noticed anything out of the ordinary recently...

before, the trouble was 'mutant' units, these all seem to be 'nopbc' units

 

Hum. You might want to turn off -advmethods, see if you get a new unit.

 

I've noticed a bunch of sub 100 pointers lately also...

 

Just to show how strange things have gotten at my end - I did 262 WU's on Saturday! For 55 points!?!?

 

Right then - seems to have got a bit more normal after doing 332 WU's last month (!??!?!) for only 6000 points...

Am now back in the top 10!!!

*note - cleaning the crap out of my laptop's cooling should be done more frequently than every 2 years!!*

Stanford also recently stop sending out QMD work units. That hurt alot of peoples PPD (points.per.day)

A lot of people are getting the small WU's. It's a project-wide 'shortage'. However, for those that have been in it a long time (like myself)... we noticed something. Stanford does what I affectionately label a "rolling WU-out" (aka rolling blackouts like in California a couple years ago).

What is this? Stanford will raise the priority on certain WU's to make sure they are the majority of the WU's getting Folded. Why? The most likely suspect ist that the WU design belongs to a student that needs it for a research project (say a Master's or Doctorate Thesis?). Thus, the Pande-Group will up the priority on that WU/set of WU's to finish it fast, then get on to the next needed WU. If nothing else is urgent, then they go back to the standard "Let them get whatever the server decides to spit out" mode.

Oh yeah... if yer wondering... i'm from Team 32.... (www.overclockers.com). I found this forum as I did an on-site POS install with a mod here, and he invited me to come over and enjoy myself a bit.

 

Well, it's getting stranger on my end - the multiple WU problem has been replaced with WU's that take a week or so to finish and only give 150 - 200 points...

 

hmm... post yer log man. If it's taking that long, then there is a good chance you dont 'have optimizations turned on...

 

It's the same on all 4 of my pc's - just got a normal WU on my work pc and it's fling through as normal...

 

still.... post the log. We'll be able to determine from that what is going on.

 

I just had a look at my previous log - it's enormous and has all sorts of website information and stuff in it!!

hmm.... the times and such look just about right for your CPU.

uhm.... how are you running the program? The GUI version, or the console version?

When it's taking a 3.2pentium over a week to finish a WU and I get about 200 points, then I get frustrated. Same with my 64 3000.

ah.... would be easier if you ran the 'no nonsense' console.

Delete the graphical version (you can get 3rd party programs to show y ou all the same info, like EMIII or FAHmon).

Download the console version. place it in your folder of choice (even in the old F@H folder). Double click on the exe to run it. It brings up a dos window that you just type information into, and it does it's thing. If you tell it to set up as a service, once you reboot, it runs in the background automatically, and you won't ever have to worry about it unless you like to look at how far you are along adn hate reading the log files... (i prefer straight log files, some prefer a nice GUI like what you get with FAHMon and EMIII).
