tivo tpo record from HDMI imput

the title says it all...... is there a way?
I just want to record what I see on the screen, I can do this with a VCR, so why cant I do this with a tivo

 

I dont think it can be done, its a series 2 tivo

 

The problem is Digital Rights Management (DRM) - that pesky little thing studios and content providers add to keep us from making copies of movies and TV shows.

I have the same issue with my DirecTV HD DVR and have done research on this (although each uses a slightly different DRM method, it appears this applies to most subscription services including TiVo, Dish, DirecTV and Sky).

* HDMI cables have built-in DRM technology. If the playback device senses the signal is being recorded by the input device, it will block or scramble the signal (hence, no HDMI to HDMI transfer or recording).

* If your TiVo box has standard RCA A/V out (yellow/red/white) or S-Video (S-Video/red/white) out, you should be able to make an analog copy using a video input card or USB device. The downsides? You can only do it in "real time" playback and the quality will be closer to VHS than DVD.

* If your TiVo has composite A/V out (red/green/blue/red/white) and you don't mind dropping about $200, you can legally buy and use this:

Using the 5-output composite, you can record HD onto your PC in real-time. Unlike HDMI, composite video does not support DRM. Since this method is technically a digital>analog>digital transfer, it is legal for personal backup use under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
