    Hello there -

I'm concerned about the two files in the post's title - and I will recount the steps I've taken so far...

Initially, I noticed that my computer was taking an extraordinarily long time to boot so I investigated and contacted TrendMicro (I use their Internet Security product). They told me that TM was taking a lot of memory because it was interacting with The Annonymizer software that I had installed. So I unistalled it.

The computer still loaded very slowly so I started looking around on the internet and by chance was looking at my "hosts" file location and discovered those two files in the post title. When deleted they immediately return and if you open them they appear to be copies of the hosts file. I commented out the lines in the files but I want to be rid of them.

Then I found this site and proceeded to follow all of the "Read & Run Me First" steps.

Ccleaner - cleaned up a bunch of stuff - but could not clean under "Admin" couldn't even get in. So I cleaned the two profiles in safe mode. Not much there to be cleaned

SpyBot - 1 or 2 cookies cleaned off (surprisingly clean!) TrendMicro has a problem with SpyBot too - so did not immunize the computer. Well, I did at first and then undid according to TMs instructions

    AVG Anti-Spyware - nothing found

Bitdefender - nothing found - but now I keep getting ActiveX changes from their website caught by TrendMicro

Panda ActiveScan - two spyware cookies - the standard doubleclick and tribalfusion

Ran the runkeys and newfiles - will attach logs

Then downloaded the new HijackThisv2 - but did as suggested and renamed the executable to analyse.exe and ran. Will attach log.

As for system restore - it may be on, but I just haven't bothered to figure out how to use it so I wouldn't use it for a system restore anyway. I install and uninstall so much stuff that I loose track. Perhaps I should look into using this in the future (or a cloning software) ;)

I was having a hard time running stuff in safe mode - driver problems - using video drivers that aren't "official" - from trying to use a widescreen monitor with a Vaio laptop.

Anyway...I hope that you can help.

Also, one file that takes a lot of Mem usages right now is the rundll32.exe - I don't think that it did before. And the TrendMicro files seem to have toned down a bit - but I'm around 500MB MemUsage at startup.

    Thanks!

    Nif

    Howdy Tim -

OK I did everything and...those files are back.

I've attached my logfiles which I guess will be in two posts.

Thanks and any ideas on what these files are? Please let me know what to do next :)

Download this file - I want to see if there is something we are not seeing. Combofix.exe Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Attach this log to your next reply

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Attach the log.
