To P4 or not to P4?

I got a dell inspiron 1100 and have a 2.4 in it at the moment,I have a chance to get a 2.8P4 for next to nothing about ($5 bucks) Will there be a noticable speed differance? i already have a Gig of ram (max) the 2.4 only has a 128 cache and the 2.8 has a 512 cache...(one day i might buy a new one)... I tried asking the dell fourm and all they say is it will work. Nothing else about if it's faster. I was wondering if some of ya'll might know if it's worth it?? Thanks for helping!!

 

yep for $5.00 go for it you are only changing the CPU right ???

 

Yeah just the cpu, i know it'll be just 400 Mhz faster but will the 512 L2 cache speed it up any?I read about an overheating problem with them (2.4) but I've used it for about 5 hrs straight editing some home movies and surin the net and it never overheated and shut down. The only thing i can do to it after that would be a dvd burner...and that'll have to wait, to dang expensive!

$40 bucks??? for a laptop dvd burner?I see them on ebay for $100-189 all the time.If you know where i can get one for $40 buck heck,I'll get 2-3!

You won't notice much of a difference if any, but for $5 you may as well (assuming it's easy to swap).


For burner, buy an internal desktop burner, which are cheap, then buy an external enclosure (which again aren't expensive), and you will have an external DVD burner.
