tomorrow is opening day

For the first time ever, a Saturday is opening day of deer season in NY. I`m layin` REAL low. Opening day of deer season is always risky, but this year the new hunters will be out on the first day. Oh man...maybe we oughtta board up the windows? Any of you going out in NY tomorrow...hunting, that is...I don`t need to but I`ll say it anyhow. Be careful please.

Man, I wish someone would come up with a way for the critters to shoot back...

Good point Wenchie...and that highway thing is all the more reason they need to thin the population. Human lives are lost to car-deer accidents...although education, in other words, people using thier heads during the rut would stop a lot of that too.

There`s a mandatory hunter safety training course that you need to prove completion of in order to obtain a hunting license. With your license you receive a tag, which you must complete and attach to the deer. The information includes a piece of your license, name and address, and time and location of the harvest. The animal must be transported in plain view, and I can`t remember right this minute but they used to have check-stations where you must report in and have the kill verified by a DEC officer.

 

There were 45 hunters injured or killed in NYS last season. In a state that boasts almost half a million hunters it`s more risky to drive on the expressways.

 

My Pop`s best friend scored a deer an hour ago. Good for him...not sure if it`s a buck or a doe, but venison is venison.

 

I used to hunt with a rifle, but the last time was 12 years ago. I never once even shot at a deer. Anyway, after hearing shots before I could see 2 feet in front of me, I decided it just wasn't safe. So, now all I do is bow hunt. Rifle season is over in my area now so it is safe to go back out again. I hope.

Oh, MrPewty, they don't need to be able to shoot back at me. They're quite safe with me in the woods.

 

Rifle hunting isn`t allowed here. Bow season runs for 5 weeks, then it`s shotgun/blackpowder.

 

Where I hunt it is shotgun only, 2 weekends. North of here it is rifle for 3 weekends. Bow runs from the middle of Sept thru Dec. With Muzzleloader in December sometime.

 

Is that rifle or bow? Can't shoot a doe here with a rifle any time.
