..I have my driver's license test

And if you think..."ahhh....no problem".....then I'll leave you with this thought.

Imagine driving on the side of the road you are used to for 20 years......and for those 20 years developing all the little quirky bad habits you aren't supposed to.

Then imagine driving on the other side of the road...drop the quirky habits and learn a few new ones instead....like being allowed to turn right on a red light  What the heck is that all about??? lol

Keep watching Fox news tomorrow...anything could happen :p

Lev...despite the fact you`ve driven on the wrong side of the road most of your life(just kidding)having driven on an international license I can assure you that if you`re a competent driver you`ll have no trouble whatsoever. I`ll wish you the best of luck...but you`re a bright on:) e you`ll do well.

I did that when I came to Canada from the UK. The tester said it was a real pleasure to go out with someone who could actually drive. Like Sasquatch77 says, if you can drive on one side of the road, you can drive on 'em all.

Lev, just cross your eyes and it will look just like it did in England. :D

    Congrats. You'll do fine. :)

    ROFL...you nutter Gary *hugs*

@Pewty...yeah I hear ya, and I do fine driving here, as I did in England too. I am a competent driver...not had a car or motorcycle accident for 20 years. I guess I just don't like coming under scrutiny by an examiner all of a sudden for something I've done half my life :)

Thanks for the encouragement guys...will keep you posted :D

Hey, congrats, good luck and God-speed young, Lev! ;)

I came over here with an International Driver's Licence too. Still not an official Citizen here either - guess British Subject and American Citizen will have to do, LoL!

Unfortunately, most of the local drivers here, drive like there is no tomorrow.

    Lev,

You mean that you have been driving all this time without a license? I pity the poor examiner, and be sure to tell him/her about your nonexistent car alarm.

Seriously, wish you the best and sure that you will come through with shining colors! :)

Hope all goes well Lev :)

So long as there are no round-a-bouts in Oregon you'll do OK.... driving on the wrong/opposite side wouldnt matter to me much but the going around something would fudge up my bearing :D

I'm sure you'll do well Lev...it's a piece of cake. If Rosie Mack can do it, you can do it. Rosie Mack was a woman who live up the road from us when I was growing up...she was from the UK....spent her whole life in the US driving on the wrong side of the road until a car was coming at her, then she would move into the correct lane.:D Never had an accident IIRC. Oh the stories I could tell about her...*giggle*

Heh....and they don't over there!!?? When I went over to visit a friend...I couldn't help but notice that , atleast in Brighton, London, and Alkenbary...they all drove like a bat out of hell!!!! But that didn't bother me as much as the close quarters!! The lanes are only something like a foot and a half wide :p , and they expect to get semi trucks through those  !! Never the less...It was interesting and fun!!!!

Sorry for hijacking here Lev!! I'm sure you will do just fine!! Atleast you don't live in Michigan, where you have to make a left in order to make a right!!!! if it makes you feel any better...I'll be going for my School Bus drivers test too, so we can wish the best for one another!!

Hey John...you remember..way back when...we had been living in the house for about 6 months or so and mom looked out the window to see Rosie digging up flowers in our yard along the foundation? Said she wanted the bulbs or something like that for her new house..LMAO She was a trip. I'll never forget the look on mom's face when she spotted her out there.:D

Sorry for the hijack Lev....I was just sitting here chuckling over the memory...:)

psst...Lev...you being from the UK and all....you wouldn't do the things that Rosie did would you? ;) J/K!!!!! LOL

I remember Ma was so p****d she was shaking rotfl. Rosie was after the crocuses wasn`t she?

  21. AbbySue

    AbbySue MajorGeeks Administrator

Yup! That she was. IIRC she said she wanted to come back later in the season to divide some other plants that were growing by the back door so she could have some of those too...it was to early in the year to take them at the same time she was swiping the crocus bulbs.

    LOL...you guys

@Novice.....I've been driving around on my European license since I got here. You're allowed to for one year. My year is nearly up

@AbbySue...good to see you back up and running hunnie :) Rosie's driving sounds crazy, and I haven't done anything like that, but I did convince my kids once that I did. We were driving toward Norfolk, England on vacation and as we went through a really long tunnel on the M11 they said "Wow, that's a big tunnel Mom", so I said "Yeah...it's the Channel Tunnel". So they get all excited that we are going to France. All through our 2 week vacation they thought we were in France. We went to a French restaurant and the waiters spoke French. Some of the billboards had adverts in French. Then my eldest, aged 7 at the time says "Mom, don't the French drive on the other side of the road?". So I replied "Ohhhhh, well since the channel tunnel allows people to travel between England and France so much more easily now, they made a 50 mile radius when you first enter France where you can choose which side you prefer to drive on". And he believed me!!! Gullible huh? In fact he believed me so much they went back to their Dad's after the vacation and told him how they had been to France. He was fuming I had taken them out the country without telling him!! And how did I get them through customs??? lol ...It took them 4 years to work out we had only gone as far as Norfolk!

    Thanks guys :)

@Laurie....yeah I agree to the most part. Here you do the test downtown...which means an erratic combination of one way streets and two way streets. I don't know the area that well yet...I try and avoid downtown......as was just concerned my left hand and right hand driving would get all confused as I switched between the two road types. But it was cool

You passed? Cool!, you can now officially be an American driver, LoL! ;)

I'm in living Western Australia a.t.m., Rog. The U.K and the U.S. is tame compared to over here - trust me! :p ;) They just go for Hell, and it's a 'Last man standing' type scenario. It aint called the ‘Wild West’ for nothing!

Ah, you women stick together.;) I'm kidding, I didn't think you'd fail. Congrats. Oh speaking of the right turn on red, on my way to work I was sitting at a red light on the inside lane of two, with a cop sitting ahead of me first in line. A guy comes ripping up in the outside lane, slows a bit, then blows the light and turns right. The cop hits the lights and pulls him over right away. We howled. Sometimes it's worth getting up for work.
