Not really sure if this should be in here, so sorry if it needs to be moved.

As per the titile, my mums Tom Tom ONE 3rd edition 1GB keeps switching the screen off.

She says ther doesnt seem to be any pattern, sometimes it stays on for hours without doing it, other days it goes off every few minutes.

The tom tom itself doesnt actually go off and the voice keeps giving the correct directions, but he screen is blank.

It is not the opton in the menu to turn the screen off, as that is set to "NEVER" .

The tomtom is always plugged in to the car so i think the battery should not be affecting it (i could be wrong ther though)

    Any ideas anyone?

    thanks

According to this, you may have to reset the device:

    p_faqid=7134&p_created=1176300936&p_sid=ofGMKhPj&prod_lvl1=141&prod_lvl2=1954&cat_lvl1=2356&p_accessibility=&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0zOSwzOSZwX3Byb2RzPTE0MSwxOTU0JnBfY2F0cz0yMzU2JnBfcHY9MS4xNDE7Mi4xOTU0JnBfY3Y9MS4yMzU2JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9YW5zd2Vycy5zZWFyY2hfZm5sJnBfcGFnZT0x&p_li=&p_topview=1

You may have to copy/paste the address into the address bar.
    Hope this helps

Or, go to support.tomtom.com & browse the FAQS. It don't look like the link wants to work.

In the site, it shows how to reset your device. There is a picture of the reset button on your device. Under that,
    Ask TomTom

In case you do not find an answer to your question:
    contact us

Click on the Contact us & see if they can be of any help?
Other than that, when you reset your device, make sure you follow the instructions TO THE LETTER. You have to leave device off for a few minutes (to clear the cache-or whatever they call it).

    One last shot:
    Question

TomTom device stuck at start-up Answer

If your navigation device gets stuck after you switch it on, the TomTom application is not installed or cannot be found. Your device then only shows the start-up image or a flashing cross.
    What happened to my device?

You may have tried to update the TomTom application but the installation was interrupted for one of the following reasons:
    http://www.tomtom.com/lib/img/cs/public/templates/ico_close.gif

To solve this, reinstall the application. Follow the steps below.

Tip: Data transfer may not work properly if the connection to your computer is via a USB hub or keyboard.

    1. Reset your device.
    2. Connect your device to your computer.
Then turn on your device by pressing the power button for 5 seconds.
      TomTom HOME starts.

    3. We recommend making a backup before you delete any files from your TomTom device. You can use TomTom HOME to make a backup.
    4. Delete application files from your device and computer by clicking Manage my navigation device.
      1. In HOME, click Manage my navigation device.
      2. Select the Items on device tab and tick the box by Applications.
Then click Remove items from device.

A warning will pop-up, click OK.
      3. Select the Items on computer tab and tick the box by Applications.
Then click Remove items from computer.

A warning will pop-up, click OK.
