As you can tell from the title im having some trouble with my laptop and viruses. I downloaded avast since it was free and did a scan where it restarts your computer (i forgot the name but people with avast will know what im talking about) i caught two trojan.gin's and that was it i did another scan today and it caught about a million malware (not litterally). I registered and typed in my key then i restarted my computer before i scanned again. My computer now wont let me press anything without freezing up, it shows the hourglass and freezes everytime i try to scan. HELP!!!

Can you download the recommend programs onto your other PC and burn the to CD or use another method to get them to the infected PC? If you cannot even do that or cannot run anything at all, there is not to much we can do for you. If you cannot run anything at all, you can see that are hands are rather tied.

You did not tell us what OS you are using.
Also have you tried booting the PC in safe mode?
Have you tried login on to another user account if there are any others?

im running XP home edition and i doubt burning it to a cd would work. How do you run it on safe mode??

Boot/reboot PC and tap F8 a few times to bring up the safe boot menu.

It is worth a try. Especically if you can get safe boot mode to work. At least then maybe you can run some scans. Otherwise there will not be too much we can do other than suggest you reinstall your OS from scratch.

You have said that you cannot run anything. Is this 100% correct? You cannot do anything at all. I'm wondering if you can get to msconfig to try a System Restore. You may also be able to do a System Restore to a date before the problem occurred by using a procedure like this: http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips780.html

Okay! Great! Let us know when you finish!

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
    • Bitdefender
    • Panda Scan
    • HijackThis

is the immunize feature default for SpyBot?

The feature itself is always there but you must click Immunize in the left window pane and then when it comes up, you must click the GREEN plus sign to actually Immunize. This must be done after each update too or you do not get the new items that could be immunized against. Spybot can be a little strange here too. Sometimes after updating or first installing Spybot, you must exit the program first and then restart it and then update. Otherwise all the items may not show in the possible immunize count.
