Is there some kind of file # limit on mp3 players and memory sticks? I've got a 2GB player and its only half full, but it won't let me add anything else. I can make a folder and add a bunch more to it, but I haven't been able to get any of the files in the folder to play.

Yes, I have a cheapo, yes I know I get what I pay for.. blah blah blah... :)

Creating folders takes up very little, if any, space at all so that's why.

Some mp3 files take up more space than others too, bare this in mind.

Doesn't make much sense to me why I can only get ~255 files onto the root drive. Why is there a limit?

But how big are the mp3 file sizes?

And did you format the drive when you first got it?

Back in the old DOS days I think there used to be a 256 file limit in C:/ root directory.

There may be something similar in MP3's, although I think there would be lots of screams from others if that was true.

A workaround may be to make more Folders and move your files from the "root" directory to those Folders (say by Artist) or type of music.

I don't own an MP3 player, as yet, so may be completely wrong about this.

Others will step in with more accurate advice. Bazza
