I have a friends laptop that is "running slow", especially on the internet. IT is a Compac Presario CQ60 running Windows 7 Home Premium w/4 mgs of memory. The only anti-virus program I found was MS Essentials and Windows Defender. She complains of the browser running way too slow. I found that in Task Manager there are a lot of instances of iexplorer.exe running, even if I haven't launched this browser. I then tried Chrome and find the same thing showing up in Task Manager. I have run Malwarebytes Anti-malware and it found 455 instances of crap, which I had it delete. I also noticed that it would get pop-ups every 30 seconds from Malwarebytes trying to contact to different websites with bad reputations. Of course the program blocked it. I ran through the steps in your Malware Removal thread and will post the logs below. After running through all of the steps, her laptop is running much better and I do not see any issues of the browser running slow or see many instances showing up in the Task Manager. I will await your feedback.

    Thanks, Stormy

The logs look good. You can re run Malware Bytes and have it remove anything else it may find.
You can then use Windows Explorer to find and delete:

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\GUMDECA.tmp
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\GUTDEEA.tmp

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.

    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I would say that the below should be cleanup. Perhaps they are the reason for the IE processes running.
    Code:

I deleted the above files per your recommendation. The laptop is now running much faster. Everything looks good so I will say we can close this ticket.

Thanks again Kestrel13 and chaslang for all your help!
