I'll have a think about what to do...It's a brand new Dell...Someone is coming to my house over Christmas, and he is a computer wizz like all you lot, I'm sure I can talk him into having a look at it......If he won't help me I'll be able to hide his body in the cellar with the rest of them......ooophs....did I say that?

I don't think Matt was refering to your friend ( Am I hearing Arsenic and Old Lace in the background?)

It would be an excellent idea to remove all the "crap" that comes with the dell:

oh_no, I have a startup utility that I got a few years ago as a freebie - it works great and avoids the pop-up warning you get when doing tweaks with MSCONFIG. It's called Starter - it's a quick install and when launched will present you with all your startup files from various sections of the registry - all in one convenient window. You can disable anything by simple unchecking the box in front of it (no warnings on reboot) or completely delete it by right-clicking on the item and choosing Delete (uncheck it first vs. just deleting - just in case). See attached. Good luck. - ChasD

    Hi oh_no_not_her_again!
    (see your private message!)

Also, doesn't the EULA refer to the contactual agreement users make about sharing their data with various government agencies and tax authorities? Why would Dell have a EULA launcher??? Or am I mixed up about what it is.

Use regedit to find eulaupdater.exe and remove the references you find.

    ChasD,
Does this mean that you are then not in normal mode, but you no longer know it? This would be important for people who are, for instance, running the READ & RUN ME thread.

    Oh dear....she's back.......

My computer is now working on selective startup as I went through the process of running msconfig and getting shut of the EULA launcher......I'm too much of a coward to touch anything on the services tab.

I get this message now on startup.....(hope I've attached it correctly, think it may be too small to read).....should I really be keeping this computer on selective start up all the time? Seems a bit odd to me.....

    Yours
    Onnha

start--> control panel--> add remove programs

See if there is anything there that you can match up with the item causing the problem (the one that you selected in
msconfig/startup ---- if so, uninstall it.

If you are not sure, perhaps the safest thing to do would be to simply check the box that says "not to show this box again"

That message is from Msconfig, to control startups as Msconfig enters its own service startup into the startup list hence that message is from Msconfig and yes your right you could just click Do not show again, but your removing entries then gaining one back in the process, which is why Msconfig is more used in a diagnostic role and once you find the culprit that hinders startup runing fine without error you remove it using either CCLeaner or a Registry Cleaners Startup Menu of what apps are set to run at boot ( as registry cleaners backup their removal its easy to restore the errant starting app.. but they why would you as you originally want it gone )

Easiest option to delete the original offending startup is to use CCleaner and click Tools > Startup and highlight the entry needing deletion and click Remove.

However I dont know if we ever found the culprit as yet as I just re-read the thread and fear many items have been turned off in MSconfig including the offending one, some maybe needed some not knowing Dells, so I'l like to see a screenshot of the startups in MSconfig or CCLeaner before offering a suggestion to which one to delete.

Or to ONNHA just click the box and be done with it, its a workaround over a fix, but it will do the job.

Abri - sorry - completely missed this. If it still applies - I believe the Codesoft Starter App simply removes the code from your Registry when you uncheck the item in the starter directory - it retains what the entry was so if you recheck the checkbox to activate it, it puts it back into the registry as it was. I'm not positive on this, but it seems that is what it does. It doesn't tweak MSCONFIG - it is by all means a better app than MSCONFIG so far as controlling startups. - ChasD

Thanks for your help. I have already read these pages and it seems no matter what I do "miss EULA" wants to hang out with me. If I disable her It makes my computer Start up MODIFIED or something like that .........anyways nothing seems to be doing the trick. Someone earlier asked if it was Google,Yahoo.etc... I'm not sure I have both I'm a newcomer to the pc and am VERY confused.:cry

A ways back onnha identified the culpret in the startup tab of msconfig utility and turned that one off. it solved her problem, my last post was an attempt to see if she could identify an installed object that matched the startup entry so that it could be uninstalled

I worded that post poorley, sorry

Ah gotcha GaryG, some threads end up confusing as hell! ;)

All ONNHA needs to do is enable "Dell EULA Launcher" in MSCONFIG again and make sure no other items are unticked, reboot the EULA will come back, close whatever popups come up with the EULA, then this time using CCLeaner as I mentioned remove it from the registry completly and their will be no Msconfig selective alert on boot.

    Hey up there!

I have spent 6 hours (yeah, sad hey!) trying to use the ccleaner. I managed to disconnect my broadband and I'm just up and running again...I don't know what I did to do that...but that's me....

I've removed yahoo toolbars (I didn't even put them on!) and got rid of everything with google in it. I finally used the codestuff starter thingie and unticked E Centre EULA Launcher and rebooted my computer....

It's worked!! All the rubbish that kept popping up isn't there anymore and I've checked on msconfig and the computer is in normal mode!!! (more than can be said for me!)

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP EVERYONE!

I think what might have also helped was that I swapped my desktop photo from a picture of trees in autumn to a photo of Arillis in Corfu.....Do you think that helped because I think the leaves kept on dropping off the trees and clogging the 'puter?

Have to go now.....I'm going to celebrate....now where's that gin?

    Love
    Onnha
