My question is where to Oprah and Elvis fit on this list? And for goodness sakes... why on earth are they ranked above EINSTEIN. And for that matter, wasn't Einstein German? I could go on all day about this.

LOL.... you're killing me here. I have no doubt that Oprah is a great figure in America. But to be ranked above the person who developed the theories behind which all modern physics stems from and the person who invented the telephone (or not depending on which version you read) and the persons who made the friggen AIRPLANE. It's too much.

I do like Oprah BTW, just a wacked out list IMHO.

Well if you knew me, you'd know that physics and phones are schlock!!!!

btw, the Wright brothers made the first SUCCESSFUL airplane. Woopty-doo. Trial and error. *twirling finger in a circle and rolling eyes*

I obviously cannot convince you why Oprah should not be one of the top 10 great Americans. I'll have to drop it there I guess LOL.

Anyone for the GW Bush discussion?

=O BEST. PRESIDENT. EVER! He should be at the top of the li....

    ..

Okay...The vomit in the back of my throat is telling me to end this charade.

No, I don't like Oprah's position on the list (or the fact that she was even considered). No, I'm not a fan of Bush, but that's an entirely seperate thread that would be doomed for closure.

Putting a list like this together is just as superficial as one of those "Time's SEXIEST MEN OMG LOOK AT BRAD PITT'S ABS!!!" kind of lists. I don't take those seriously, and I doubt I'll waste any time on this "Top American's" list either. Btw, what kind of shit is that? It's bad enough those "Sexiest Male/Female" lists make us feel ugly...Now, what? Are we supposed to rearrange the way we view our idols? Sure, a person who isn't so close-minded will not react in such a way, but it doesn't seem this list is catering to those of us who like to place our own worth/value on the accomplishments of others.

btw, The only books on my desk right now are about Physics or Math. Physics is definitely NOT schlock. ;)

Technically, yes. But he died with dual Swiss-American citizenship.

That's about as far into this as I got, I'm not even going to bother clicking the link to read the list, it'll only irk me. ;)

I finally read the full list. There's an awful lot of people on it who aren't American. Einstein, Tesla, Schwarzenegger, probably more. If they can claim Mel Gibson,
"His Australian accent notwithstanding, Gibson spent his first 12 years in the United States.",
how can they claim Einstein, who spent a damn site more than his first twelve years somewhere else. And what the hell are Arnold and Mel doing on the list anyway????

And Brett Favre? Pat Tillman? Ellen DeGeneres???

And Nixon? Who do you have to kill to be excluded???

These things are always more popularity contests than serious discussions of who is/was important, agravated by the lack of teaching and knowledge of history.

I'm almost surprised that there are as many serious contenders on the list as there are. But it's still meaninless.

What it shows more than any thing else is just how trite our citizens can be.

LOL, ack, Michael Jackson, why isn't he on the list? or is he? Which friggin' Americans vote for those asses anyway? Goodness...

I had stumbled across the televising of this list while channel surfing. The second I saw Bill Clinton`s womanizing snake-oil selling smarmy grin I knew that it was pure BS and never gave it an ounce of credibility.

Discovery are going or have gone to the dogs with that list, some of them that have been mentioned above ok do deserve to be in the top 100 but definatly not the top 25 and Ronny R at number one..... MMmmmm.. harder to believe is Billy "I did not have inapropreate relations" Clinton is their and as said above Einstein or The Wright Bros
