I have cp case with a top mounted CPU and would like to upgrade to at least a 650 but looks like all the PSU's I have looked at are meant to be mounted on the bottom. Is this the end for top mounted cases?

I gather you are looking to put a 650 Watt Power Supply (PSU) which is situated at the top rear of your Case ??? if so it will have 4 screw holes on the case vent. Fix#/Screw by using these and have the PSU fan facing downwards, depending on the case you may have to remove the memory temporally. If you are still unsure or need further information post back.. Good Luck.

I installed a Corsair 650 PSU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012) in an 5 year old Antec mid-tower with a top-mount PSU. As Toke said, it was a bit of a pain in the a-- having to remove/reinstall both the memory and rear fan as part of the process; however it did fit.

The two biggest issues I've run into upgrading power supplies in ATX (tower) style cases are:

    * The depth of the PSU (front to back). Be sure there is enough room between the back of the PSU and the back of your your CD/DVD drives (including the cables coming out of each).

    * On a few OEM cases (especially Dell towers), the cutout in the back of the case will not take a replacement PSU that has an on/off switch installed. In this case, you'll either have to look for a PSU without an on/off switch (very rare) or carefully cut the back of the case to allow for the on/off switch.

    Hope this helps. :)
