torrent=lag?

internet lags after i dl torrents. programs at start up either dont load up or take an extremely long time to come up. running windowxp. great comp 1 year old

 

Is this during downloading of torrents?

I'd change your torrent download program to something less network intensive.

Does that uTorrent work the same as a normal bit torrent client?

IMHO, it is the best torrent program out there.

 

I noticed that while using uTorrent 1.3 that all other .net applications were slow -I'm about to install the latest uTorrent and I'm hoping that this will fix the problem.
I especially notice the slowness when searching via the uTorrent client.

 

You may need to cap your upload speed to 80% of your maximum rated upload speed. That will leave you enough upload overhead to access the net while torrenting. If you regularly max out your download speed, you shoud consider a download cap also.
